My mom used to be a headstart teacher. The purpose of this activity is a little more extensive than her description. Pounding on it increases hand-eye coordination and helps to begin development of the muscles you use for writing. If you can get the child to make something with it it further increases muscle development.

I suggest you remove this silly video. Who would have thought of using your hand or a hammer for pounding playdoh. Anyway, the playdoh looks poor quality as it is not elstic enough. Use a btter recipe.

Yes, this is basic stuff....but I believe the teacher is showing you how you would demonstrate this to the children. Montessori method is very specific and detailed, even for simple things.

LOL, any kind of playdo? this is a hammer? Forgive me for having half a braincell but how many kinds of playdo are there? who is she teaching here the kids or the teacher? I thought this was for the teacher because lets face it, if the kid can use a computer and view you tube clips they are probably going to know what a hammer is...
