The new version of this is amazing, it boots in half a second, with another half a second to go from login screen to desktop. Although it lost it's nice black and white starting logo, I'm not complaining.
Horrors! It is not in the same class as the old one. -- Tiny bullets on top left of screen, no Gimp or replacement, Upgrade from 9.10 no good; it lost EVERYTHING. It will take me months to get system back to where it was. -- They have convinced me: Get Virtual Box & have a good look at things before deciding. -- 9.10 has a much more instinctive feel & looks better. If they can take such a giant leap backwards, it is time to look at other distros. -- This is unbelievably bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just hope gaming will get a big foot in ubuntu/linux soon. mostly the only reason why i dont use ubuntu. i like the UI in ubuntu. would rather have it if all games worked or atleast close to all. and to be able to use 100% off my hardware´s power..
I suppose all that blank screen time was to give an idea as to the boot time (I'm just guessing) but it was a bit awkward to watch. Looking forward to the 10.04 release!
Heres a tip: Learn to edit; nobody wants to stare at a black screen, regardless of the point youre trying to make.If there was a point to be made that is.
@D00d777D00d that's right but, as DistroTV said '' This is the alpha version. For more important changes in user interface we will waiting until March 4th 2010''
For every one that says this is a slow Boot it running from the Live CD and for others saying it looks the same in the first 2/3 alpha's of any Ubuntu they tend to work on back end stuff first
I'm sorry, this looks near exactly like the prior 2 versions of Ubuntu. Correct me if I'm mistaken please. I realize this is just an Alpha stage right now.
@stmpoodle Alpha 1 has only been worked on for 35 dayes, and it's just 20 dayes after the meating about what should be changed, so right now it's basicaly just 9.10, copied to the 10.04 folder with a couple of updates applied.
The first few alpha version of vista looked very similar to xp, so there could still be big changes, though ubuntu has a much shorter cycle then windows did ;)
I love ubuntu

WOW!!!
A SYSTEM THAT COMES WITH A CALCULATOR!!
Seriously, I wouldn't even call that a first look.
I'd rather say "Making ripples on the LCD screen while stuff happens in the background".
It says about as much on the system as all of these "Look at my compiz configuration" videos that starts to get quite invasive...

The booting speed for a live CD is dependant on the speed of your CD drive to start with...

I actually have yesterday's daily build installed and it gets to the log on screen (and I'm not joking) in less than 5 seconds!

right now, it really looks like karmic! :] but I'm sure it will be different when it actually comes out.

This is only an alpha version and it is a live cd that is slow, be patient tre or four month for a very new version.

1 min? That's really fast for an Alpha. My 9.10 starts up to the password page in 35 seconds.
