I saw CH when it first came out. I always enjoyed Eastwood and Reynolds movies. This one seemed to miss a little something, but I enjoyed it. Now, after over 25 years, I watched it again and, for some reason, I like it way more now than I did then. Why? Could be because I'm not seeing the likes of Eastwood or Reynolds anymore. Or this movie seems to have a lot more going for it than today's movies. I'm not sure. But, I'm adding it to my collection.

I consider this movie an example of "The Sting Syndrome",in which 2 A-list male stars join forces on a period film.Sadly,that formula only worked for Redford & Newman:it did'nt work here or for "Harlem Nights"(the Eddie Murphy\Richard Pryor vehicle).

Guys, I really wanted to like this movie, but it just didn't work for me for some reason. Not sure why. I love both Eastwood and Reynolds and had wanted to see them in a movie ever since they posed together for that January 1978 Time magazine cover. When this film came out in '84 I was thrilled! Finally! Then I went to see it... and... well... um... Burt is his wonderfully wisecracking self and Clint (the Mount Rushmore of great movie males) is reliably Clint, but...

One of the most underrated movies of all time. Great dialogue & great chemistry between Burt and Clint. This is a buddy cop movie set in the 30's that exploits the natural talents of the two stars very well.

And the rest of the cast is great also. Even the character actors in the smaller roles are memorable. Rip Torn had some bad publicity lately but he was great in this movie. Same for Madeline Kahn and Jane Alexander.
