I use a half vanguard style with an Infiltrator Shepard.

Learned the shotgun skill on the collector ship, so I shoot everything that's far away with a shotgun, and I use the cloak to get in at least almost melee range, and pump al lthe bullets from the shotgun right up close into some fool who thinks that he/she/it can shoot shoot me!

I love the infiltrator, but on insanity, no way in hell. Mantis sux, cloak sux esp, against Vorcha, they spray&pray and lucky shots still kill, baddies move too fast & too many for sniping to do much good. If you must do it, dl Zaeed and get the firestorm quick, it's a great CQB weapon. also don't worry much about cloak, upgrade your health, spec'l ammo and incinerate. You'll be glad you did

I completed ME2 on hardcore first time through with an imported character from ME1 with infiltrator class. It sucked in ME1 because the sniper rifle was just not feasible until you'd picked up a lot of upgrades. That's fixed in ME2. Tip: take up positions where you have clear firing lines. As an infiltrator, you need to take care of flanking units fast. Cloak and sprint to a new position when you get overrun. Enemy AI loses track of you and you get more time to line up all-important headshots.

If you want to get up close and personal, do not play infiltrator. The cloak is best used from cover (assassin cloak is your friend) for max headshot damage (combine it with Garrus' AP ammo once you've gained his trust and have advanced training, plus visor instead of helmet or no helmet, and you have a winning formula), or for fast, defensive repositioning if they converge on your position. No running and gunning on infiltrator, unless you're up against husks. Then you'll want to run.

I really enjoyed playing as the infiltrator. The headshot damage with sniper rifles while cloaked pretty much resulted in one hit kills, and the ability to incinerate or overload enemies made huge dents on their defenses.

Also, cloaking when a Krogan is charging at you then hitting him in the back of his head is priceless.

From what I can tell, the inviso cloak merely alters the light around the user to completely camoflauge them. This doesnt change that light is hitting on an object though, so there's still going to be a shadow.

Plus watch part 0:39 through 0:45 closely, look at the ground, Sheperd's shadow is still there.

Not really. If you want close combat you'd naturally become a Soldier/Vanguard. An Infiltrator that goes for close combat wouldn't make sense cause it wouldn't be infiltrating if everyone knew you're there. You sneak past the defenses, look for a place where no one would see/expect you and get rid of the most important targets.

An Infiltrator that goes into close combat wouldn't have to be a tactician but a one-man-army.

yeah and also infiltrator is specialised in long range combat....so if an enemy comes close he needs a means of escape....its the same principle with a vanguard...since hes good at close combat he needs a mechanism to close in on enemies if they r far away

Think of the "Sniper on a rooftop" strategy, he has to get there someway. Plus, he can clear up a path from afar, and then just walk in without getting hit.

Well, I'm a long time Thief player so perhaps the whole game would have been differently designed if I could decide. More open levels, at least some sneaking with the ability to command team mates to for instance take down specific enemies at a command. Sneaking would also make it possible to re-program some robotic enemies and why not poison/drug biological enemies?

It would probably be a first person too.. :)

I just used Adept, and I didnt like it.

Turns out, it was because I was using the Infiltrator fighting style (I had played infiltrator before) and covered everytime I could, and tried to use biotic powers like you use a sniper, to kill afar and hard to get to enemies. It was only till the end, where I started to to spam the fuck out of Shockwave and realized Singularity actually dealt a LOT of damage that I facepalmed and realized how much of a noob I was being.
