They are parasites, which means they live off of another organism until they no longer need it. They just go in any way that they can. They can force the host to kill itself when they are done living off of it.

They are harmless to humans. They have no mouth. (Which also means that they can't eat, but they can live for weeks and even months)

It's the worm larvae that initially infect the host, but I'm not sure how they manage, exactly. The adult worms, once they emerge from the host, are totally harmless. Couldn't hurt a fly.

As disgusting and dangerous as parasites are I find them fascinating. I am also glad we are not "yet" effected by that fungus one that takes over ants brains and causes them to explode into strange fungus trees. Forget bird flu those fungus ones should be the things that scare you.
