  • dude that was really good. Upon stumbling upon it randomly I watched it til the end. If HBO doesn't offer you a gig I hope someone else does.

  • Wow. Not how I pictured Mance but this is impressive acting.

  • 0:51 "The Free Folk Follow Fighters!"

Try saying THAT when you're pissed!

  • I'll admit i imagined Mance Rayder soft spoken and nice, and definently older. But i can totally dig this guy as Mance.

  • I just started reading Steel and Snow and from now on it's your face and your voice playing the part of Mance Rayder!

  • Wow, that was... incredible, at least on par with the other actors on the show. You have me convinced, and I hope to see you in the second season.

  • Amazing.

  • @piratepimm *a little bit of spoilers*

Mance is a man of the night's watch who somehow became King beyond the wall.Jon describes him as really average-looking.

Imho, he shouldn't look like a wildling, nor like a noble.Just an average dude.

  • @Nixiae Oh I've read the books, don't worry :) I just think that Mance needs to actually look like he's been living beyond the wall. Joe looks modern day earth average, not Westeros "free people" average.

  • Yeah, but can you sing?

  • Yeah, y'know, if you don't make it onto Game of Thrones, I'm sure you could get some work alongside Bruce Campbell in a return of the Prince of Thieves.

No seriously, Hercules and Xena can go fly a kite, you and Bruce all the way. Like double rainbow and shit.

  • I'm about half way through Clash of Kings & haven't officially met Mance yet, but this was great ... you are really keeping with the spirit of the show!

  • Amazing Job seriously, you seem like you would fit well with the other cast members. You have that "way" about you that seems perfect for the show, now when ever I read about Mance, I have a visual to work off.

  • You're a really good actor and I think this series of videos you've put together are really well made, but I don't know if I want a Mance who pronounces "Snow" or "cloak" like that. Maybe change up the beard a bit or something too, not sure you have "the look" of a wildling king if you know what I mean. Good luck!

  • OMG - this looks like some leaked footage from second season of Got. You HAVE to be Mance, cause you're brilliant in this scene.

  • The part where you ask Jon "or did you think that only crows could lie?" is very much how I imagine Mance; the tone is cool, calm and humble. These are all the traits that make him such an effective King-Beyond-The-Wall. He doesn't exert dominant authority through his voice, IMO, but rather through his actions.

If you did the rest of the scene in a similar tone you'd have a much closer interpretation of the real Mance IMO.

  • This truly is a BEAUTIFUL performance!

  • Holy shit dude!

  • this is kind of beautiful! :D

  • At first I thought "It seems average, and the look doesn't quite match what I had in mind." But as you went on, I was just more and more assured. And now I KNOW you will fit for this role. I hope to see you in it.

  • I really think you deserve to be on this show. You've got talent, determination and passion, and as I can see a great love of the novels. That's just the kind of actor I want to see bringing these characters to life. Come on people lets get this guy on the show, I posted this video on the GOT facebook page and if you liked the performance you should do the same thing.

  • hey this is actually good stuff! i was especting... i don't know, comedy? but you are serious business. keep trying! i hope you get the part! :D

  • I remember watching this vid in january.

now I've just read the chapter where this vid is extracted from.

you're badass enough to pull a mance rayder. like not too beefy, but also plain, and still confident.

I know chances are slim, but good luck, bro

  • I'd love see you playing some Shakespeare roles. You have that kingly aura.

  • The way you deliver "MY OWN HARPIST" has become a running gag between me and my friend Nicole. We love you so much, thank you.

  • waaaaiiiit, this is for a storm of swords right?

  • Not bad dude! When I first watched your vids I didn't think you were really cut out for this deal. However, while you may not be quite the right fit for Mance, you have the potential to make a good character somewhere in the show.

  • The Grand Expedition to Drachenfest and Mythodea supports you Joe!

    (google it)

  • it's so hip-hop on 0:51 =) Get Joe on the show, yee

  • The Mance!!!

  • THAT LINE A LITTLE BIT SLOWER WOULD PROBABLY MAKE THE CHARACTER MORE SOLID. I THINK THEY SHOULD AT LEAST CONSIDER YOUR AUDITION

  • That's in addition to a genuinely excellent level of power and passion in your voice.

  • Your delivery here is outstanding, it really is. I can tell how much time and effort you've put in here to find the meaning in these lines, and while I don't know the context that surrounds them, I feel like I know both the lines and the subtext, which is both impressive and rare.

  • Hi Joe. Before we begin, I'd like to say that I've not read the books and don't really know much about Mance in general. (I do like the cut of his jib, I must say). So I speak here as a fan of high-quality acting rather than simply being enamoured with a favourite character of mine being portrayed well.

  • awesome! Just how i expected Mance Rayder to be!

  • I'm sure I've just stumbled across something spoiler-ific (half way through the first book, up to episode 9 of the TV series), but you would be excellent in this role!

  • Denioff and Weiss (producers of GOT) should let this play a role in the show. He is not that bad, he would nail it.

    Let him play Mance Rayder.

  • This was amazing. At first I found myself thinking that "eh, he's good, but there isn't enough emotion in his eyes to really make me believe that he is Mance Rayder", though I understand what rain does to make us squint. Not to say that your eyes were emotionless, because they -weren't-, there just wasn't enough in there to hold me. However, at about 1:28 all of those thoughts completely disappeared and I was sucked in. Good luck, mate! I'm rooting for you! -Twitter follows-

  • @PETITCarousel Same thing. First thinking the eyes were missing that little thing that made everyone follow Mance, and then getting sucked it as the video went on and the passion kicked in.

  • HBO, if you can read us, we want him

  • OMG! This guy is so talented, better even than many I've seen on GOT. Hell, I thought he was on the show already, that's how good he is.

  • Brilliant

  • Wow that was awsome! I really hope you get the role your obviously a very talented actor.

  • You're the man!

  • Well done Ser. I really hope you get the part. Else sound the Horn, HBO has a season more to consider.

  • Very impressive. Great costume too.

  • Is joe on the show??

  • If only it were snowing, then it would be perfect, even though this scene actually happens in a tent it I remember rightly.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, I agree the accent slips slightly in parts. But that was spot on. Hope you got he role.

  • Mance Rayder role is in the bag for you, good sir. That or HBO is pretty much missing the point.

  • You certainly have the looks for the part, and a lot of enthusiasm(in my eyes an actor who actually knows and likes the role he plays gets a bonus).

One minor problem though, I think your accent is slipping in a few places, but I guess with enough training you'll sort it out.

  • this video spoiled me so bad :P

still, awesome performance. I picture Mance Rayder as you already, and I still haven't seen him in the books ;)

Good luck, hope you get on the show!

  • Fingers crossed Joe! This is exactly how I pictured Mance :)

  • Well done Joe this is beezer, hope you get a part. Enjoyed this, great performance. Lar

  • "The Free Folk Follow Fighters"....say that 10 times fast

  • Most people probably had a their own idea or image of what Mance Rayder looked like while they read the books. I, however, watched your video before Mance was introduced in the story. Whether or not you make it on the show, you will also be Mance Rayder in my mind. Great Vids!

  • @parttimebutcher Thanks!

  • I Just created a youtube account only to tell you that I red the books before i saw your videos. An when i saw them, especialy this one, I found you incarnated Mance just as I imagined him. You are a very good actor and you deserve to be on an HBO show.

By the way, congrats on the team that filmed you, the direction, the image quality and the sound are very professionnal.

And a big LOL for the video with the actor that plays Syrio Forrel, I laughed my ass out.

Keep on going!-sorry for my english

  • @RedSunSacar Thanks man. Our crew consisted of my wife and a buddy who's a great cameraman. Please spread the word! Here's a link you can share on Twitter and Facebook: bit.ly/GJotS_playlist

  • Wow... this really impressed me. I'm with the others, I'd love to hear if HBO's seen the audition/cast you etc!

  • @treeofhatred Keep watching. :)

  • Let me predict your future fortune:

I foresee a great bonfire in your honor.

  • I want to see who he's talking to. :D

  • Did you get on the show?

  • So good

  • Did you audtion??? We need an update!!

  • This was a great performance. I wasn't sure whether you could pull it off but when it was time to get serious and perform a dramatic audition that would fit with the material you really delivered. I think it would be great if they give you a role on the show at some point because you've definitely got the chops for this.

I just wanted to post my support for your effort because it takes courage and determination to do what you're doing and you've certainly got both.

  • This was amazing!!! You completely defied my expectations. A really powerfullaudition.

  • Not a Mance Rayder........more of a Randyll Tarly

  • Lol, the accent completes it... love this!

  • W O W

  • This was really damn good! I was expecting some half-ass performance, but you sir have proven me wrong. Eggs on my face

  • This was so solid. Normally these sort of things are just gimmicks by silly fanboys...but this was legit.

  • You rock man!!! It be awesome to see you on there

  • Just great. Everytime I watch it it gives me chills. Could you do a few more parts of the book?

  • wait, thats not from a game of thrones D:!

  • Great job! If anything, they should at least let you don the black!!!

  • Dude they NEED to cast you as Mance!

  • Wow! I was spellbound for your entire performance! Well done!

  • ok but can you sing?

  • 8 people know nothing, Jon Snow.

  • To be honest, I didn't feel like you were the right choice to play Mance Rayder in your other videos, I thought you were more suited to play the role of Stannis, or even Davos, but your performance in this video just convinced me: you deserve to be the King Beyond the Wall, dude, so good luck!

  • Hey good luck dude. I really hope you get a job on the show. I tend to pull for anyone who has a passion for something and then actually strives to accomplish it. This is a good way to get your name out there. All of us who have watched your auditions would be thrilled to see you get a part, big or small.

  • Brilliant mate!

  • Damn, you're good!

Of course, they first have to reach the part of the book series where Mance appears.

    Let's hope they will...

  • You sir are a very convincing Mance Raydar. I hope you get the role. Best of luck to you.

  • Excellent performance. I have to say mate, I am very, very impressed. I admire your skill and determination.

You sir are a bright and shining beacon of "can-do" attitude and you inspire me. You've captured the character in your acting and your choices in how you directed the video do you great credit. The sound effects, simple costuming choices.

I have my own little projects on the go & when things look a little grim I have only to look and see what you have done, hope you get the part.

  • @romeowhiskeyone Thanks very much!

  • Comment removed

  • Have to say, I expected this to be lame but it's really well done. Mance Rayder is an excellent character and you seem to have a firm grasp on who he is. Great job.

Also, this served to make me realize just how awesome the wildlings are going to be on the show.

  • I really like your treatment of Mance. Can you do a few more parts from Mance or another character and upload them! I'd love to see more.

  • Not bad, you'd make a pretty good Mance. The overall impression is very convincing, and considering the fact that you are standing in the middle of a green field and wearing a turtleneck... It's very impressive. I've seen a lot of actors make a way worse impression on me while standing in a professional-made set, wearing professional-made costumes.

It would certainly be great to have an actor with the genuine enthusiasm of a fan fill the role of the king beyond the wall.

    Good luck.

  • Very nice acting. I hope you get the part.

  • You'd make a great Davos, the Onion King! Either way, you are very good, ser.

  • @TheWolfDogMoon I meant Onion Knight!

  • Rereading Storm of Swords as we speak, and I can't help but imagine Mance looking like you as I read. Think this speaks for how awesome it'd be for HBO to give you the role!

  • I am too moved, to finally see the words I read so long ago, now there in front of me being spoken by the real Mance... Thank you and if you don't get the part, I want you to know that here and now as I have watched this tiny bit, I cry with the relief.

  • Definitely should be thrown into the world but not as Mance, I can't see you as the leader of the Wildlings and I highly doubt a strong English accent will be used by them. Judging by your audition in the rain/cold weather and your age, I would suggest to get a role as one of the Ironborn.

  • I totally made a video of me lip syncing this for my own personal shits and giggles. Gotta say your voice even seems epic coming from my mouth. Despite my obvious girl-ness. So... yeah. Hoping that someone sees this and you get the part.

  • @huckincupcakes Hilarious, post it as a reply video!

  • You gave me goosebumps. I wuold definitly love to see you as Mance Ryder in Game of Thrones!

  • Holy...it's almost as though I'm in the book itself suddenly, being Jon Snow and talking to THE Mance. :D It's really like him, and I'm one who doesn't usually consider people for roles just because they are cool simply. ;)

You ARE Mance, sir. Definitely wonderful! \o/

  • Οk firstly thumbs up for the professional look of the audition. You CAN act. But... i cant imagine you as Mance. Mance supposed to be charismatic leader, charming and even handsome. You look fine but extremely ordinary guy to be able to inspire a host of many tribes to follow you. Sorry mate i dont mean any insult.

  • Hey man awesome audition. I dont know how much it will help but I threw up a link on my facebook. You should also consider Davos (I know you mentioned him before). I dont know if you can do another audition? Mance or Davos though, terrific. You have the look. Nice beard. Goodluck!

  • This is epic. Seriously, I would love it if they had some hardcore fans in the cast, because I feel like there are a lot of them out there who could do major parts justice. Hopefully you catch the attention of the people who can get you on the show! Viel Erfolg!

  • My first impression was that this WAS a scene filmed by HBO. Nice work!

  • Wow, I honestly thought this was the actor who was going to be playing Mance and thought "Great casting!" It would be a crime if you were not discovered and taken into consideration for the part.

Good luck man. You deserve a shot at this.

  • This is a great audition Joe. It's way better than anything else we've seen. I hope you get a shot because you deserve it. One small criticism (all constructive of course). Your English accent is very good, but it's more of a middle class accent. Mance Rayder would probably have a less "posh" accent. Probably a little more common.

Anyway good luck with your efforts. You have plenty of support :)

  • I really do hope you get on the show. You're a talented, funny individual with a lot of charisma, and I really think the Game of Thrones would benefit from your screen presence. Excited to see more in the future!

  • I hate when books are adapted to film or television.

A song of Ice and Fire is the best piece of literature I've ever read and Mance Rayder is one of my favourite works of art.

    You Ser, ARE Mance Rayder.

I appreciate this video a lot and I wish you the best of luck upon your endeavour. I'd be glad to see your face in the cast.

Also, I have that armour too. :)

  • @sparky668 Excellent! But do you have the turtleneck? :) Thanks for the comment, Sparky.

  • (continued from below) ... but the audition shines even in poor conditions, and that's a high compliment! Your commitment is great stuff, and I'm going to hold a permanent grudge against HBO if your name can't be found in the credits!

  • Full disclosure: I'm not (currently) involved in acting, directing, casting, or other role relevant to any entertainment medium at all. That said, your audition warrants four out of five from me. A few lines weren't perfect, but damn if there wasn't some really great ones too! You're fully capable of realizing this role and deserve serious consideration. I watched this from an iPhone, so the odds of me being impressed were lower than had I given you a decent monitor and sound system, but t

  • Wow, i'm quite amazed by your talent. Hope to see you in the 3'rd season :)

  • Great, great, greeeaaaaaat!!! I can't express myself very well, 'cause English is not my mother tongue, but...

    ...really like it!!!

Get Joe on the Show! ;) Good Luck!

  • great showing! i love the rain/cold breath...makes it much more organic and real. I totally agree with a few people about the 58 second mark to about 1:30 mark. i even love that little pause "i know the approaches..as well as any man alive.." love that...kinda cocky and proud. love the tail b/t the legs expression also.

    great job!!

  • You are Mance Raydar.

  • Absolutely fantastic...I really would love to see you get a part mate. You grow throughout the piece. I would love to fight you and test your sword :D

P.s Use of eyes is brilliant man

  • brilliant! can't get over the transformation from the fun and frolics of the first 3 episodes - great believability, really on the mark!

  • I've seen a few auditions tapes, some professional some not. They don't even compare to this. Auditions never capture the passion and flare of the actors like this one did. If you don't get a part in the show I won't watch it...actually no, I can't not watch it sorry, but I'll be very disappointed ;)

Oh and by the way it wasn't just the acting that was superb but also everything else you've set up in the video. You're talent as a film maker clearly shone through in this. Best of luck to you!

  • @blaineo3887 Thank you, very much appreciated.

  • Can't watch...not through book three yet!

  • this is the ONLY audition I've seen that's worth considering. This dude ACTS.

  • Absolutely UNREAL, shows a completely new side, the build up to this video was creative and funny. The audition itself shows a serious actor, one who is perfect for this role. As a fan of the books, the fear is always that the characters on-screen wont match that of what one imagines, but this is PERFECT, Joe IS Mance!

  • @TangoMotorboat And you ARE awesome.

  • @TangoMotorboat

    I completely agree.

  • GREAT job Joe! You are great!!! I love the expressiveness in your eyes.

Also great concept, interesting and clever audition! I am proud of you!

Wish you ALL the very best and hopefully HBO will appreciate your talent!

    Wait to hear exciting news!

  • Aaaaahhh!!! Joe, you are Mance-tastic in this. You must be very brave or very SMART Joe Campo... to come back to us wearing that outfit!

  • I love hearing this dialogue spoken aloud! How hard was it to say "the free folk follow fighters" without getting tongue tied? :)

  • Nice audition, I hope HBO will notice you.

My favorite part is between 0:53 - 1:06 . There is some very strong emotion in those lines and great delivery, although I have never personally pictured Mance quite as intense.

  • JOE! JOE! JOE! Incredible!!!!!

It would be a horrible, horrible mistake for them to continue on without you.

    P.S. BEAUTIFULLY shot.

    -Liz

  • wow Joe you have surprised me, not just as an actor, but as Mance. I repeated said you should audition as Davos seaworth. BUt wow, what a great audition. the best fan audition of any fan audtions for this show! good luck getting the hook up!

  • Great job. They'd be lucky to have you. You made me want to watch the show.

  • Great audition Joe! You are a fine actor and very believable! Good luck - hope you get the part! All the best, Aunt Gail

  • This is awesome... You are great.

    From Italy.

  • Wow. Well done.

  • Can't wait to see you on the show! You've proven your worth.

  • Wow! Amazing job. I will be truly upset if you don't make it on the show as Mance and will be scrutinizing the other Mance horribly.

  • I've been waiting for this one!

I can only echo the others here. Brilliant! I love the scene you chose for the audition; not an easy one, and I'm glad you didn't pick one of his more 'pleasant Rayder' modes because I think that would have been cakewalk to you.

I definitely hope you manage to catch the eye of the almighty casting people!

  • nothing short of brilliant, i'll be honest. If you don't get an audition, i'll be truly shocked. Just a few little moments when the accent drops below excellent, but i'm sure they'd be ironed soon enough. Notably "my people have bled enough"... i can tell its someone trying to put on the accent, the rest of the time it was flawless.

  • you are intense. I want to know more about the story now. beautifully done. i hope the walls do not fall.

  • O wow. You are really good and convincing. A big plus for the location and costume. Because of you I can't wait to see the HBO serial. Although it will be filmed, acted. But you just become that character. For three minutes I can't tear himself away. Have you thought about acting? Seriously? I think that will be great for you. Good luck and I look forward to the next episode of "Get On The Joe Show."

    My favs?

0:28 "Or did you think that only crows could lie?"

    1:07-1:29 "Now, the true is..."

  • Like I said over at Winter-is-coming it started a little shaky but I felt you hit your stride and you really impressed me. While I still think that Gilly was your best shot I would love to see you as Mance. The only thing I would suggest is get the accent nailed down a little better. But other then that I have one thing to say. GET JOE ON THE SHOW!

  • To be honest, I wasn't sure what to make of you in the first three videos. Now I'm convinced you should at least be a contender for the part. Your annunciation was great; and not only were the lines delivered with great tone, but the body language and facial expressions matched. You're handsome enough for the camera--I know the eyes certainly drew me in--and you have a good look for the show. Well done. And good luck.

  • This is awesome. I wasn't convinced at first, but the intensity was pretty impressive near the end.

  • Awesome!

  • Fantastic job, Joe! My favourite parts were the dramatic intensity in your eyes, the subtleness, and the rain. Oh, and the armour!

I thought it got stronger as it went along, and the accent was only shaky in the first few seconds then got much stronger.

You definitely deserve and official audition, and some kind of part in the show. I think you'd be best suited as an outlaw, a sellsword, or a minstrel.

  • Great audition. Good luck getting on the show.

  • Well done sir, well done! All the best of success!

  • Amazing Joseph! Keep it up man.

  • I want Joe on the show. That was great! Can't wait to see this show!

  • Get Joe on the show!

  • I'm not all that surprised, I knew this campo dude was capable and good as soon as I saw video #1. Each video raised the bar, and each sequel succeeded in surpassing the last.

  • Great audition (and very professional looking)! You really make the character stand out. I think Mance Rayder is the perfect character for you, since he has a relaxed and funny side but also this other rough side that made him king beyond the wall. Good luck with this!

  • I read on the WiC boards that this is the last episode. SAY IT AINT SO!!!!

  • I read on the WiC boards that this is the last episode. SAY IT AINT SO!!!!

  • So good!

  • As for the accent - maybe you could try using your natural american accent? It might seem more natural...

Sorry for all the criticism but I wouldn't do it if I didn't think you could make a GREAT mance with some little tweaks here and there. I think you should make another video!!

  • Here are some of my favourite and least favourite parts of the audition:

Favourite: 0:28 - "Or did you think that only crows could lie?": I love how you delivered this line, subtle, cheeky, yet serious

Favourite: 1.19 "I could storm the shadow tower too": I LOVE this line...you seem arrogant and cocky and its totally believable. Love it.

  • @crazydaisy99 Brilliant!

  • I found the other videos hilarious, and wanted you to get noticed. So I promoted them. I was a little nervous to see the actual 'audition' tape you'd come up with...'will he go funny and campy? or gritty and serious?'

I have to say, I'm super proud of this. You did a great job, believable, right tone and I'm currently re-reading this scene (spooky)...I know have no other mental image for Mance. Keeping my fingers crossed for you Joe!

  • @kelseycatherine Thank you! I know that you have been rooting for me since the first video and I couldn't be happier that it lived up to your expectations.

  • Amazing!

  • Bloody hell, give this man a role!

  • Very subtle acting. Well done.
