You are the perfect drummer for recording. So accurate in both stick strike (which is obvious by your dirt patterns) and pressure. You have that perfect pressure. A finesse.
the room is big...about 30x50 ft. with 10 ft. ceilings. Concrete walls with 3 ft. insulated knee walls. A few office dividers to direct the waves which way I require.
I have all the gear I use listed on my profile page. THANKS!!
I'd like to call them intentional changes to keep it interesting. Yes, towards the end is 6/8. I should have called this one mixing up time signatures but for the most part is 5/4. Feel free to edit as you wish.
I would suggest to practice the same thing you do on a pad or snare but on the toms only to get a feel for how the bounce differs on a looser head. What you do on the pad is the same on the toms you'll just need to "push" with your fingers a (little) harder.
just practiced this on my bonham kit, but I set the 18" floor as my bass (wide open, bonham tuning), with 12" rack, 16" floor, and 14" snare, two 18" crashes as hats, and my 24" ride, for humor. I really like a lot of your playing ideas for this, thanks!
@GrooveDrummin OK, but I have think it better and you was right: if you play it in jazz style, the hihat should be in the ''2'' of 3/4 first and 2/4 after - so it was 1,2,3-1,2 :D
Hey now, did you go off time somewhere between 45s and 1m? I was counting along and at somepoint you seemed to be landing on 2 rather than 1. But i could have just lost concentration. Either way, great playing.
Yeah, good counting! At 0:46 I added an extra count (6) to setup the insertion of another part and see how it would sound but after I discovered I didn't set it up soon enough I had to get back to time and find the one in a hurry...so yeah, slight mistake.
So nice to find tasteful drumming on YouTube. Really great job!

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but isn't this groove almost identical to Dave Brubeck's Take Five (re. Joe Morello)?
I'm not ragging on ya. Five is one of those meters that I end up having to hum the Brubeck song to, to keep my place :)

Have you ever looked at any of Jeff Porcaro's work? The shuffle from "Rosanna" by Toto is quite difficult to master.

Are there a mistake in 00:45 ? and 01:31? and 02:01? Change 5/4 to 6/8 from 02:01?
Excuse. But I am doing a track with several You tube drummers in Jammer 6 to 5/4 compass.

Do you count 5/4 just like 4/4, except instead of counting 1-2-3-4, you count 1-2-3-4-5?
gamertooth17 1 year ago
@gamertooth17
You can count it like that yes. The other ways are 123-12, 12-123, 1-1234...here i'm counting 12-123.

Really nice groove. But I thought that Take Five was like 1,2-1,2,3; wasn't it?
excusemyenglish 1 year ago
Thanks, I wasn't following the tune take 5 just going with the groove.
5/4 may be counted 1,2,3,4,5 or 1,2,3-1,2 or the way you had mentioned, what's important is coming back in on the "one". Thanks again.
