  • Do I have to be Indian to understand this ish?

  • dude one minute f***ing intro

  • I would like you to give an honest and logical assessment of probability of the pattern of numbers in the Aimed At America 1 video. There seems to be too many parallels for these events to be coincidences.

  • thanks a lot...awesome lecture...interesting :)

  • Thank you very much sir. you have given a very clear and straight forward approach to the subject and now i feel that after listening 2 ur lectures i can read ,understand Papoulis and must be able 2 solve the probs too. thanks very much sir..

  • I´ve watched several videos from nptelhrd, and they are great, and most are very understandable. But with all due respect to the venerable professor, these lectures are hard to understand. Not that the intended audience cares, but i gotta say. Talks too fast, not clear to understand the words, i just cant follow them :(. Besides this, its great.

  • Accent is awful no more than useless crap because of indian accent.

  • @yesilful

  • I really appreciate this kind of online classes!! there´s nothing more dignified that share for free that amount of information and knowledge, I´m Completelly gratefull. But this professor has a very hard to understand english pronunciation! or at least, it is for me, becouse my mother language isnt English :S

I really sorry if I offend someone!

  • REALLY WONDERFUL..... Thank u sir...

  • Can any one please direct me to a good english speaker that explains probabilities? English is not my maternal language and i have big problems understanding this profesor :|

  • @kotyeu

Alas, you cannot be helped! ROFL!

  • nice

  • Thanks very much for this! This is the *only* free English-language course on probability theory available on the Web - and quite well done. I look forward to the next lecture.

  • his accent is annoying

  • more like amusing....

    P(H=60,T=40)~1.1%

    P(H=50,T=50)~8%

    Binomial Theorem

  • he is talking about an ideal coin. In your case if H:T is 60:40 then your coin is biased, nothing spiritual about it, its a manufacturing defect.

  • Thanks to the Government of India and all the Profs at IIT campuses for supporting such an awesome initiative.

  • someone should tell the teacher to take a short course on set theory : phi is the empty set, { phy } is a set with one element constituted by the empty set !!!!!

  • you talk funny !

  • Wished the lecturer focussed more on concepts and undrlying philosophy of probability theory rather than algebra which could be understood from text books.

  • I wonder if this could perhaps be because it is a course from an Indian University. I've noticed that Indians adhere strictly to algorithmic like thinking. Even for example in it's great philosophic tradition one is bombarded with numbered lists and procedures. I've learned this though experiences dealing with tech support where the service had been outsourced to India. Just try jumping a procedural step simply because the answer is already known!

  • @Roshibear What you speak of with tech support is the same for all countries. In general, if the customer knew enough to know which steps could be skipped, they wouldn't be calling tech support.

  • Done on 14th August 2008 :-)

  • nope, the rhythm is good. Shouldn't go slower than this. For those who are not familiar with Indian/bengali accents, it may take a bit getting used to (I am guessing that most Indian students, the intended audience, should be able to follow the accent and rhythm of speech).

  • good but you talk too fast
