@TheDraykez No worries, it's because of YouTube's compression. This video uncompressed looks amazing but after YouTube gets through processing it has a ton of artifacts which ruin much of the crisp, clean 3D view.
@ratiocinator It's okay, I totally forgot there are different types of 3D and I was expecting a different type than what you're showing. I can see that the images in the backgrund do 'pop out' a little, so it does work! That's why I removed my comment anyway. Have you seen Minecraft in 3D? My god, it's absolutely incredible. It uses the red/cyan anaglyph just like this but the 3D is nearly perfect!
@TheDraykez Yes I have! I've played this, Minecraft and Left 4 Dead in anaglyph (red/cyan) 3D with great success. It just so happens my folks purchased a 3D-ready TV (active 3D) that'll arrive to their house next Tuesday which is the same day Shadow of the Colossus HD comes out on the PS3 (which the game supports 3D). Needless to say, I'm going straight over there to play that game and soil my pants in excitement as a result.
@ratiocinator Oh that's cool! I tried playing Fallout 3 in 3D yesterday with the iZ3D drivers but couldn't get it to work very well. I'm gonna try Mirror's Edge and L4D at some point too! I've never played SotC before, but I've heard it's good! Will it only support that new kind of 3D (I forgot what it's called) or will it support the old styles such as anaglyph too?
"The stereo setting used is "Optimized Anaglyph" which turns all red-colored textures in the game yellow and dulls any blues (this is done as to not interfere with the red/cyan stereo effects used for anaglyph glasses as they would conflict with each other)."
3D is really cool - and your video really made me want to play Mirror's Edge... Roll on payday.
But my eyes tend to adjust to the red and cyan lenses pretty quickly. I see things really red with my "cyan" eye and really blue with my "red" eye. Means the 3d effect actually wears off and I'm back to watching it with the red and blue ghosting. I can only do 3d for minutes at a time. Is that normal?
@paulbottomley42 I don't have that problem (and sorry to hear it happens to you) but if I wear the glasses for too long then everything becomes red/cyan even after I take the glasses off. It'll stay like that for a few minutes... very trippy.
Yep, that's the experience I get. Happy (although jealous) it doesn't affect your 3d experience as it does mine. Maybe they're just not quite the right specs - I got them from Amazon but use nVidia's 3D system, which is supposed to come with its own glasses with lenses a very particular shade - I may have thrown them away o_o
Now look what you've done, you've made me buy Mirror's Edge. I hope you're happy. :P
Oh I should also mention in case its not obvious that its the cheap anaglyphic nVidia system I'm using, not the expensive shutter one. I bloody wish (And am I really likely to chuck hundreds of pounds worth of glasses? Well... yes. I can be a prat at times. But not this time) ;)
@paulbottomley42 Ah, didn't see your second response. It's still good though. Mirror's Edge is a trip to play in stereo 3D. I'm glad you got it. While this game has some control issues and a lackluster story, it also excels at breaking the mold for first-person games and going for a stylized art direction when all others are going for "gritty and realistic."
Shadow of the Colossus will be re-released in HD on the PS3 and will support 3D. What I'd give to play it like that...
@BillyTheMilkMan Guaranteed 30 fps at all times, plus 3D support. Also will have bonus content including never-before-seen videos for both Shadow of the Colossus and ICO, plus some new footage of "The Last Guardian." This re-release will be out September 2011.
@paulbottomley42 You have the nVidia 3D glasses/system?! What're you doing watching these crappy anaglyph ones then? I'd love to have that system (and a 3D capable TV for that matter). Did you know LG came out with a new technology to where you can watch 3D TV -without- those shutter lenses? This new technology lets you watch 3D with polarized lenses (just like the ones used in theaters). So that means cheaper glasses that don't need to be recharged.
@fisk0 It's a comination of different things: 1) Anaglyph will always alter the color palette (as it needs two different colors to work), 2) I have the game set to change all in-game red colors to yellow and make the blues duller (so it doesn't interfere with the anaglyph) and 3) because, as ipaqmaster said, this game has A LOT of washed-out white buildings which creates a "ghosting" effect when used with anaglyph. When life gives you lemonades...
Got the 3d effect with my glasses but it was still just alittle bit blurry, like I could still see some of the red and green lines, I noticed its like 50/50 with Anaglyph images and such, sometimes perfect and clear, other times still blurry, any tips on how I can view "all" video without seeing two images and such?.
@Nenilai Yeah, the blame here is mostly with YouTube's compression. I was thinking if I ever did the other Mirror's Edge chapters in 3D I'd provide a link to the video from another site you can download it much better quality. Not sure yet.
Anyway, these videos were recorded in 3D so there's no way to view them in 2D or a single image. Sorry.
@ratiocinator Ahhh yea, well thank you for your response, still an awesome video, blur is still at a minimum and still has an sweet effect of being there. I wanna play this game using that effect, it'll be amazing up until my seizure.
Hey I've posted some good settings for this game using Tridef Ignition, look for the TriDef forums on google then go to game profiles. Look for Emude, program cost money but you can download my Profile for the game if you get the trial version and like it.
@PaulHasyn I'm sorry, it wouldn't do any good for the purpose of this video. It was recorded with anaglyph -through- the game to give true depth-of-field through 3D. The stereoscopic wasn't added later through post-visual effects like what YouTube does.
@usbvidzet Nope. You just need a pretty powerful computer to render it all. There are certain forms of stereo 3D that require a monitor with a screen refresh rate of 120hz, however, but not anaglyph 3D as shown in this video.
@xrtze It's using IZ3D's AutoFocus feature which automatically changes/updates the separation/convergence depending on the depth-of-field you're currently looking at.
@bukie89fella Slow internet speed from your ISP. Cable modem is choking up. Router is choking up. Poor wireless signal (if using wireless). YouTube undergoing maintenance. YouTube servers being overloaded with hits. Virus on your PC/Mac/Linux. Low-grade graphic card can't support YouTube HD. ISP is undergoing hardware maintenance in your area. Other computers hooked to your network are slowing your computer down.
@Syeno@Syeno Same here. 3D Blu-Ray players will be out soon along with 3D-ready TVs. Unfortunately, I don't think video game consoles will have the raw processing power anytime soon to make the RealD-type effects I commented on earlier. However, there are games out now that use anaglyph 3D and digital 3D such as the Xbox Live Arcade game "Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao"
@Syeno Thank you! About RealD: Unfortunately I cannot. Taken from Yahoo! Answers:
RealD glasses work by having one lens block right-handed circularly polarized light while the other lens blocks left-handed circularly polarized light. Making circularly polarized light is anything but trivial. It requires a special project and screen. Your computer (and your TV) is not specialized polarization-controlling equipment, so it cannot create the images you see in RealD seen in theaters.
