That's why this was shut down in HALF the time as '94 despite something like double the numbers of people downtown.

@ElProximo And that strategy worked the entire playoffs up until the end of game 7. This was not a hockey riot, this was not a riot caused by a city in grief over losing the stanley cup. This was a riot of OPPORTUNITY, you had 100,000 people downtown and people LIKE the Black Bloc (I realize its not a group and I am not saying it was them, but using it as an example) who use it as an excuse to break and steal shit from within a crowd.

@ElProximo That is actually a mistake on my part, the "meet and greet, cops all over downtown but mostly being passive" was in regards to before the end of the game and after the other games. I believe in '94 they had cops out in full riot gear and they chose a different approach this time. One which in my opinion worked out alot better.

All the cops I interacted with downtown were awesome, more then happy to smile and let people do their own thing as long as no one was getting hurt.

Who is watching the watchmen? Who is policing the police? Who is looking at them while they look at us? No one.......they are secretive, release little to no info to the public and they constantly refrain from our national policy on policing. We are being stripped of our rights.

The police hid in stores 75% of the time. There are pictures of them hiding in alleyways. They deliberately held off and allowed the crowd to get ugly. Over served drunks, allowed to group in large numbers, no police presence. They set it up.

If they are allowed to use alleyways and spread out, guess what? The damage is more spread out, the cops are spread thinner etc.

That's not even close to how a tactical police unit even operates.

They held off for too long and everyone knows it. Their presence was barely there until the last minute when all hell broke loose. The media, the city, the neighborhoods, the locals and local media all agree that the police did not do enough even considering their enormous budget for the event.

It's obvious the rioters were provoked. The police allowed a large crowd to form. They were told the last time this happened not to allow large crowds. Over 100,000 strong or more not including staff or people who entered without passing through checkpoints many of whom were under age and drinking openly. Staff at pubs were ignoring the legal drinking limit.

When the riots started the police were hiding inside department stores, future shop and in alleyways. They were told to stand down, allow

During the '94 riots the cops were out in force and they realized that the force way was not to go. They came out with meet and greet, cops all over downtown but mostly being passive, letting people do their own thing etc.

I know this because I was down there for the majority of the finals.
