haha i love all the fans complaining for a call even though there was no possible cal to make...i know that feeling when a play that unbelievable happens against ur team u just think there must have been some way that shouldnt count
One of the greatest blocks ever. It's definitely up there along with Big Ben's takedown on Shaq, Jordan's block/steal off of Ron Mercer, and of course Wilt Chamberlain rejecting Kareem's sky hook.
Slow Reggie looked down at his dribble and stutter-stepped before attempting a BACKBOARD layup- man, the writing was already on the wall. And Tayshaun actually slowed down himself to time the block. No look down, no stutter, and perhaps a rim layup- things might been completely different.
If you look at the score you'll realize how amazing the Pistons defense was, maybe the greatest of all time. They held their opponents under 70 points many times that year and still won despite not having anyone as a dominant scorer. Defense nowadays is nothing more than an afterthought.
"defense nowadays is an afterthought": GOOD!! The Pistons were one of the most unwatchable teams of all time, right up there with the 90's Knicks. The league is so much better now that teams require their players to be able to dribble and shoot instead of just bludgeoning the opposition
Unwatchable maybe to someone has no real understanding about basketball. Back then teams used to play both ends of the court, being great scorers and great defenders. Now everyone just wants to be shooters but then get their ankles broken when it's their turn to defend. We might as well tell the other team to get off the court whenever they change possession.
Gee, I sure remember that at the time this crap series was going on, almost everybody with a "real understanding about basketball" (i.e., coaches, scouts, former players) decried the lack of offensive fluidity, passing, over-dribbling on both teams.
Yes, the Pistons could play defense. Here's a cookie! Offensively, they were a lil better than the 90s Knicks, who almost killed the NBA... But the Pistons were the least offensively capable team to win a title
@senjahcore You do know that defense wins championships, right? I understand the fun in watching a 150-148 game between the Suns and the Nuggets in the regular season, but there's nothing like watching a defensive battle in the playoffs. I'm sure you grew up on Warrior basketball or something.
@chabowker I could've sent this email a while back but waited til it was official... Ahem, defense doesn't win championships, THE LAKERS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS.
16 for the 'chise. 5 for Kobe and Fish.
The Celts wanted a bare knuckle brawl with shooting percentages in the 30s. Kobe gave it to them, lol, and he and Pao still sent 'em packin. Detroit is cool, but FUCK THE CELTICS
@senjahcore You're proving my point for me. Lakers=good defensive team, Lakers=champions. This was a defensive battle, yet you enjoyed watching it only because you're a Laker fan. *sniff sniff* can anyone else smell that hypocrisy?
@chabowker I didn't enjoy last night's game at all. It was horrific in terms of missed layups and open shots, etc. Of course both teams played incredibly hard, starters on the court 45+ minutes each; some of these players will never be the same that series was so hard-fought. Game 7 was admirable, but barely watchable.
A lot like your Pistons of the past. They were barely watchable without partisan loyalties just as no one but a Laker fan could love that thing last night
@chabowker So I'm not being hypocritical or proving your point, so much as I'm proving my partisanship. GO LAKERS!! The problem w/ what I saw last night was that it lacked all semblance of precision or skill... If the Lakers generally played like that (Kobe and Pao were simply so fatigued all they had left was their effort), I wouldn't be a Laker fan.
If you enjoy this style more than I do, that's fine: do your thing.
Like I said, though, I got no quarrel with the Detroit-ese. Fuck the Celtics
@senjahcore I thought the defense cancelled out most of the skill & precision. It wasn't pretty at all, but I still enjoyed watching it because both teams were going at it hard for the most part. Congrats on the Laker victory.
@senjahcore actually i loved to watch those Pistons. incredible defense is great. of course some offense is nice to see but their defense was worth watching. definetly
only reason prince caught up was he was going full speed an reggie slowed down tremoundously an he wasent even going fast to begin w. 1 of the saddest moments ever as a indy fan
yea its becuz reggie wanted to make sure he got it but still that was an amazing block probably the best ive ever seen its the reason the pistons won the 04 championship and those 5 starters were the best 5 starters ever assembled better then the 98 bulls who had MJ
Just look where Prince is standing at about 0:08 seconds in; he's almost at the other corner of the court. Then he's out of view, and when he shows up again at about 0:12, he's already right behind him. It almost looks like a camera trick.
Reggie should of kept going he was slowing down idk why tired ass lol.. he should of ran as fast as he could and not stop and dunk it instead of stopping at the key and trying to lay it up.. thats what fucked Pacers over..
Reggie is 6'7, he's not a short guy, why didn't he just dunk it?! And don't tell me he couldn't reach it because if you rewatch the play, you can see his hand on the same level as the rim as he tried to lay it in.
blocking above the rim isnt goal tending, goal tending is called when the ball has started its descending phase or (which is the question in this case) if the ball as already hit the board...
Old school players tend to do layups more than dunks, especially at his age and level. I think he was just too confident, didn't really think that anyone would try as hard to get him.
Hey, Atlanta are about to get swept, too. So maybe the NBA wants to make Lebron so dominate that he can swept the first two rounds of the series by himself. I still feel good about the Pistons.
It's not over yet I think. I think they're going to get rid of Iverson to free up some cap space and eventually, sign a better team player. I don't think Iverson will fit their current rhythm.
looks like an olajuwon on strickland play. not bad but reggie should have dunked it. i blame miller for going up weak, 6'7", dunk it u wuss. still a good hustle play.

p.s.
1. tayshaun prince should have gotten pistons player of the year and championship mvp for this!
2. this play pretty much made tayshaun into a beast!
i seen how he did it now after 4 years i was juss so mad i never really watched he juss too a huge step wen he was at tha freethrow line nd took off from there
I notice when perkins doesn't play or has a bad game, they lose. KG hides behind perkins, w/o him in there he reverts back to his mr. softy saunders, soft days in minnesota
I had the exact opposite feeling, lol. I was so happy, I had seen tay do that so many times that year, I knew it was coming as soon as I saw him running up the court, but the way in unfolded at that point in the game, and how he saved it to rip was amazing to watch. But Game 2 was GuaranSHEED!!!! remember? lol
yea i noe he shoulda dunked...i hate wen nba players do soft ass moves goin 2 tha basket imean ur a grown man 4 gods sake u should b able 2 dunk tha ball...lol...nah but that still was a great block nd clutch too
This series was my favorite. I was screaming cause I thought Reggie was going to make it. Then I saw Tayshaun and they replayed the block many times. It is known as the block of 2004. go Pistons

But Game 2 was GuaranSHEED!!!! remember? lol

That's because Boston is built around those 3 guys. The rest of their team isn't really that good.

LOL. The Celtics only need 3 guys and they can beat the shit out of the Lakers 5 man team.

This series was my favorite. I was screaming cause I thought Reggie was going to make it. Then I saw Tayshaun and they replayed the block many times. It is known as the block of 2004. go Pistons

Agreed, considering when it happened (playoffs) and time if the game (late stages). That junk was amazing.
