You should have tried diesel (similar to jet fuel\kerosene), or something with very low octane rating, it will self ignite a lot easyer (even without glow plugs). Propane\LPG (at least the type we have) has higher octane rating than the highest gasoline octane we can get (99octane). If compared, I think its around 105 or thereabouts (but burns slower). (eu octane ratings)
