this was my second season following the rangers and of course home games weren't on regular TV so occaionally there'd be a road game on channel 9 (i spent a lot of time listening to marv albert and red light messina on WNEW). i remember watching this game and wondering if this is the best they can do against a team like this, how are they ever gonna beat the big guns montreal boston buffalo islanders etc... of course in the spring they proved me wrong but this was horrendous
"Some games he was simply sharp as a tack and virtually unbeatable and other times he looked like they randomly picked out a Ranger fan from the crowd and threw him between the pipes."
That got me thinking that maybe one of those other times they got ahold John Davidson of "That's Incredible" and "Hollywood Squares" fame, and put him in net.
@Tubewings Tube,I often wonder did they kinda subliminally changed the Rangers John Davidson to J.D so he wouldn't be confused with the actor John Davidson ? Just a thought lol
I wanted to say thank you ,not only for this post but your many others from Ranger history.I watched or listened to every game of the 78-79 season, so this brings back many memories.I was wondering if it is possible to post the opening and closing credits from a WOR-9 Ranger broadcast from this era?It would be fun to experience the music and graphics again after all these years.Thank you again.
You know Mouth, that last goal that JD gave up was truly a bad one. It was a well-placed shot but unless it's Guy Lafleur or Mike Bossy shooting from their a shot from that far out should not go in. The fourth goal was a slapper from like 15 feet out, and with the smaller equipment in those days, unless a shot from that distance hits the goalie it's hard to react quickly enough (in todays NHL, with the size of the goalie's equipment lots of those do simply hit the goalie).
