@squirtle24601 They actually dont do anything. But you need to get them for the good ending. In the bad ending he doesnt have the emeralds and after the credits you will see Robotnik/Eggman (Whatever X_X) Laughing and juggling with the emeralds.

I was trying to get the last one for like 10 minutes, just had me jumping all over the place. Sonic 4 kept this part similar but 1 was harder even if you had time. Sonic 3 was one of the hardest one. It was like one of those don't blink things lol

And don't get me started on that last Chaos Emerald in Sonic 4 part 1. Excellent game, but it's pretty much the last thing I need to do and it's HELLISHLY hard.

I hate these goddamn motherfucking bonuses. They're all luck. Even with strict memorization one touch of an R block and you're fucked. So many perfect runs fucked up by that. Do you really think that? I actullly think they are quite easy. A lot easier then getting the stones Sonic 2, they are dia hard difficult. In this you just jumping around and avoiding the red endings. Also, its not like the stages gets harder, the last stone for example is nearly at the beginning of the labyrint.

This and Sonic CD is the only sonic games i manage to collect all emeralds

the only way to really restar is to get farther into the game and any emerald you missed will come back again OR use cheats

Im gonna tell everyone sumthin funny. Because of this stage, i've grown fear of being out in the wide open. When i was a kid i had a dream i was in the bonus stage minus the rotaing arena. I was floating in the middle of nowhere and the music would get louder and louder which struck more fear. All i wanted was Emeralds, instead i was trapped in that fuckin bonus stage

Yeah, I couldn't either. I remember if I did, I would go back to the regular stage. I think the guy who posted the game used a cheat honestly. What other explanation could there be? The game designers obviously didn't put in a stage where there was no challenge to get the emerald.

Makes me wonder how you touched a GOAL and didn't warp out. Ah, well. Classic memories. If I remember right, I think the reason there was only six to collect was because Robotnik (aka Eggman) had the seventh, which you got when you beat him in the Final Zone. Could just be me, though.
