  • The thing about this song is that this is all you need: guitar, vocals, drums, bass, and organ. But this organ part is just too repetitive in this version. It's barely moving chords at all, and even when it does, it doesn't sound different enough to be defined as a chord change.

Great version, though. One of the best of the early ones I've heard thus far.

  • m soory

  • Pinom Pa..... bass

  • Easiest song to play on the organ...ever...

  • From 5.:42 to 5.56 Jeff Buckley :)

  • very srv influenced here

  • this performance could have done without the organ, or at least have it lower in level than the drums. It becomes irritating after a while.

  • I realy love that Snare sound!!!!

  • A parte questo sol continuo dl''organo che ci sta una picataaaa!!!!

  • TRio? ma sono in 4 mi pare!!!

  • The organ is just fuckin stupid to some extend haha, no chords shifts at all? else it's wonderful haha

  • @oliverandm I think his arrangement needed it in this one. Just a trio man! and I actually love how it all ends with the organ still ringing out, really sets the mood for the whole finale.

  • howcome can drums, keys, bass, guitar and vocal be played by a trio? and why must the 4th man, who plays thoose really really nice hanging chords in the backgruond, not officially be in the band??

  • @DKoutposting well if there really is an keyboardist onstage (I don't think there is), he would be considered an accompanist to the trio, a guest onstage. if this was the case, john surely would have recognized him.

  • He's the most important thing in my life!

  • where's the piano guy!? Is that a track!?

  • @gugusfu The drummer is playing piano with his feet!

  • What notes does the looped organ play? Is it a full chord?

  • i like this guitar but for this song it just dont feel like that dark navy blue strat that he has.... i think the pick ups might be different, idk but i can tell the other guitar has a more meaty sound. but i still love johns music

  • @sticxmusik I agree. That other strat has a much fatter/smoother clean lead tone. This one seems to have a hotter pickup. Maybe texas specials?

  • i like this guitar but for this song it just dont feel like that dark navy blue strat that he has.... i think the pick ups might be different, idk but i can tell the other guitar has a more meaty sound. but i still love johns music

  • <3

  • Es mi versión favorita :')

  • This is probably the 5th "Gravity" live performance I've watched and not one solo was even close to sounding like another.

  • @DannyRayAcoustic yes yes yes..truly an artist

  • @DannyRayAcoustic because he's a blues player and blues is = improv.

  • man.. that groove steve jordan is holding on to is tighter than... i dont know what...

im bad at such one liners... but thats super tight...

n i love the sound of that snare hes using in this song ;)

  • @chasingmisery Agree ... the whole time that rimshot sounded like a cross stick to me. Steve Jordan is superb - so tight and clean yet he never loses the thread and it's verrrry easy to drift off for a moment or two in a song like that (it is for me, anyway lol). Quality musicians.

  • Gravity is a great song!! Written by a great artist!

after watching every video on youtube of him playing this song with the entire band, i find that the trio version has a lot more soul than any other!!

My new favorite version of the song! and my new favorite artist!!

  • I think this is the first time ive ever seen him play this song without his black1 strat

  • @charldaughter LOL true true. I love him so much but I just hated this hair. But who cares when you sound this amazing, right? :D

  • real. music.

  • i prefer his white signature strat rather than the sunburst. i dont know why.

  • @ardiandhani same here

  • @ardiandhani that's not his signature one, even though it looks a lot like it! on the signature, the string guide is farther from the nut. Also, you can see it's a nitro finish on this guitar while the signature's got poly finish! and I prefer the sunburst than the white one, even though they both kick ass!

  • @StevoRayVaughan ya ya, i just saw the string tree. the signature one is farther. i dont have any idea about the differences of the finishing. yes, i love his sign strat, but i prefer the srv's :D

  • @ardiandhani nitro finish is an older finish that Gibson uses on all of their guitar use and Fender uses on the vintage and the relic models. it's a lot thinner and more fragile than polyurethane finish, but let the wood breath more, so the guitar sounds better. Polyurethane finish is a lot thicker, and really hard to relic, and when it's reliced, it's usually an ugly relicing since it's almost like a plastic layer over the wood, but it's gonna keep your guitar looking new longer than nitro :P

  • @StevoRayVaughan ahhhh.. thanks a lot for ur infos, mate.. i learn something new..

  • @StevoRayVaughan that is a bunch of bs. nitro feels different, but does not sound any different. the wood is dead, does not need to breathe.

  • @brownbigb but the wood vibrate a lot better with nitro, so it does sound different!

  • @StevoRayVaughan how do you know that? all the "nitro" vintage guitars had a thick fullerplast undercoat, much thicker than poly. what helps the guitar is a really hard really thin finish. back in the 60's nitro was thinner and harder and cheaper. today poly finishes can be much thinner and harder than nitro. also you are confusing the vibrations of a soun board with how a solid body vibrates.

  • @brownbigb THAT is a bunch of bs. wood is never dead, unless you burn it. then it's dead.

  • @MultiYeahohyeah say what? the wood is alive? it exists, but once the tree is cut down, it is dead. go learn biology.

  • Comment removed

  • @brownbigb wow, you don't even know what alive means. dig yourself a hole and climb in it.

  • @brownbigb allright mr. smartguy, teach me on the meaning of the word "alive" please.

  • @MultiYeahohyeah no point trying to teach idiots. educate yourself. start with a dictionary.

  • @brownbigb allright sweetheart, there's no need to get rude around here. but that seems like the only way for you to compensate your lack of knowledge. have you ever cut a tree by yourself? i don't think so. 'cause then you would know, that AFTER THE TREE IS CUT, it dries, and something that's called "shrinkage of the wood" happens. and that means that the wood is breathing and it's alive. face the fact: you sir, are the idiot.

  • @MultiYeahohyeah you are dense beyond belief. after a human is killed and their body shrinks after (see mummies) because it looses its water content. by your definition the human is still alive long after getting killed. it is not breathing you moron, it is drying. sit down before you hurt yourself. i'd be seriously surprised if your iq is in double digits.

  • @MultiYeahohyeah any more brilliant observations?

  • @brownbigb a du bist ja vielleicht ein bluza. typisch gschaftlhuaban aus da stodt, keine ahnung vo goanix. und vo hoiz scho goaned, weil sunsd würdest wissn, das hoiz auch nochn schlogn noch lebenszeichn zoagt, wos a mensch ned duad, waun a gschtorbm is. oba wos soid ma so ana floschn wia dia nu erklärn, bist ja doch nua a beidlboscha. hoids mei, und schleich di bua.

  • @MultiYeahohyeah basszd meg a kurva anyadat. en is tudok ugy makogni hogy a budos isten se tudjon segiteni hogy megertsd.

your english is bad enough, your german is not much better. you didn't go to school much did you? try hoch deutch, or maybe that is too much to ask. where in austria are you? voralberg? i lived in austria for 2 years. in innsbruck, in lenzing, in baden and in hochneukirchen. lived in wien as well. most austrians i met were much more educated than you.

  • @MultiYeahohyeah the only austrians, that were very uneducated and dumb, i met when i lived in lenzing and worked in vocklabruck. they were lumberjacks, and as dumb as the chair they sat on. just total darkness. other than that, i had very good experiences with austrians, mostly knowledgeable, educated, nice people. my aunt was a violinist in the innsbruck symphony.

  • Im big on rock but this music is cool.Sometimes you want Dio and then this.My head in class is like a ipod and this is always on my heads playlist

  • one of the most emotional songs and live performances iv ever seen, lol when that solo first comes in its stunning, the organ sound fits amazing.john mayer is fucking god,my idol,i hardly play anything else on guitar these days, only his stuff

  • I dont like the organ.. too loud

  • What pedal is doind that organ sound? Incredible!

  • @dbf678 on the in repair session video i seem to remember him saying that it was a pog but i am not sure.

  • @Antonovich74

it's a pog with all the octaves up. :D

  • guitar is the most beautiful instrument of all... don't ever stop playing...

  • Classic.

  • I want that strat

  • It's weird to see him play ''Gravity'' without ''The Black One''

  • @musicdude195 that's what I was just thinking!

  • I, for one, don't care if there's a 4th member holding down a note or not. I just love this song.

  • its not trio theres a organ in background hehe

  • omg he sounds like ray lamotagne.....

  • @bluesoulad

hahahaha!! he totally does right here

    they are both so amazing!

    you got some good taste

  • its cool for sure

  • I like the part when he does those fast blues licks

actually i like all of it.

    :)

  • so much dynamic, emotions from all musicians. the atmosphere of this song is incredible. awesome musicians! if you look into john's face while he plays a solo you can see him putting all his emotions into the solos.

  • Nvm it is a 60's strat

  • It's not a 60's made in Mexico strat it's his sig in Olympic white

  • Is that a 60's Strat? made in mexico right?

  • @LuXguitaR its most likely a genuine 60's stratocaster

  • yeah steve!!!!

  • how is there organ in this song if its a trio and the bassist is playing bass

  • skills. xD. great song.. better with the trio imo :)

  • @bassmaster947 magic.

  • I believe it's a loop pedal which has recorded it. If you listen carefully then it's the exact same note throughout the song. I believe he uses the guitarpedal he also uses on In repair, to make the organ sound - awesome :D

  • @OnpluggedMusic

its not a loop pedal.. there is a guy in the back playing the keyboard. and it sounds like its the same note but its not. he has the same chord changes as everyone else.

  • @nikulas91 if there was a guy in the back round then they wouldn't be a trio...

  • @GunsNLed45 and they'd show him during the video haha

    must be a ghost :P

  • @OnpluggedMusic yea hes using a POG he talks about it in his "in repair -one song one day vid"

  • magic

  • John's music is amazing, he plays beautifuly, and he just puts more "soul" into it than other modern songwriters. his music takes me to a big beautiful city. it reminds me of my trip to chicago. all his music is amazing! :D

  • dnt know how but no artist has ever hooked me for as long as jm did. dnt kno why. theres just somethin "extra" in his music

  • @ieatchicken133 its called soul! :)

  • @ieatchicken133 It's called emotion. He actually feels his music when he plays. Unlike today's music that just talks about getting drunk and senseless other things. haha

  • @RenegadeSquirrels whats wrong with gettin drunk haha just kidden.. you make a valid point man

  • @ieatchicken133 its feeling in this cind of music not jutsin bieber shit...

  • @ieatchicken133 so very very true ! couldn't have said it better!

  • @ieatchicken133 totally agreed

  • Kinda weird seeing him play Gravity on anything except either an acoustic or the "Black One".

  • this appears to be a 60's Roadworn series strat as far as i can tell. It is weird that he's playing one, its kinda like a poor-man's custom shop relic.

  • I dont think its a roadworn. Probably custom masterbuilt or a true relic of some sort.

  • @AlanDavidMusic Ah, you're probably right... it dates from November 2005. Those roadworn strats may have been in the concept phase... but didn't come out until 2008?

  • Yeah its a sonic blue j.cruz masterbuilt.

  • @tszoom85 its definately not a road worn its not even that reliced.

  • sorry dude. it's one of his personal models. The off white cream, with aged pickguard. they sell em @ guitar stores. it's a great guitar if you can get your hand on it. all his models kick major ass.

  • @tszoom85 Hehe it's most def not a Road Worn - Road worn series is a Mex....

This is a masterbuild customshop - The John Mayer Signature Limited.

  • I know its not a Road Worn but I could have swore they had American Made versions. If not then they are way over priced for what they are.

  • @Levidamanguitar exactly

  • @tszoom85 Ups, sorry thought you meant the "black one" - this one i have no idea. but dont count on it being nothing less than a CS

  • AMAZING!!!! THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY!

  • is this off any live album of his?

  • me encanta esta cancion dios es hermosa

  • HAHA! He's pulling an old hendrix move there, and he does it a little cleaner than hendrix, which is why he does it more. SRV used to do it too a bit. I don't see how that compares to Trucks and his role model for guitar, Duane Allman...and artists like Mayer and Mule and Trucks do better with love and peace anyway man, I'm sure they'd both agree. Warren plays all the time just so you all can see him as well, though I'm sorry you were disappointed by the expression of an artist.

  • You know thats not derek trucks move srv even did in voodoo chile and hendrix in machine gun. food for thought

  • listen to to the music, don't look for mistakes, for god's sake such a gorgeous song and you are paying atenttion to bloody technicalities...

  • this is just amazing, nothing else can describe it...

  • It has been reported that he sometimes works with a leslie so it could be a Pog generated effect (guitar to organ sim) effect being sent to a leslie speaker ...who the f knows lol

  • Ya I know he uses a Pog. In Repair was recorded with a Pog.

  • His vibroking that flanks the two rock heads and cabinets is such a unique tone of his time with the trio I cant say I hate his new or old choices of equipment these days. Btw I have always wondered for this 3some song if they implemented a tape loop of a studio B3..could it possibly be a guitar looped organ effect driven by a Pog generator and then given a rotary effect ...sounds kinda uni-vibish ..theres sound amplitude shift but no apparent change in sound position. U never know with him!

  • its a 64 Vibroverb....i have the same one....original

  • Man, I hate playing songs over and over again sometimes...it's a Bummer...gets real old!

    Play this...play that...Fuck!

    You know what I mean...

  • The Organ loop really doesn't add anything to this performance. It's actually very distracting once you've focused listening for it. It's also kinda funny at the end when they finish playing and it's still going, cause for a moment I actually thought the organist wasn't paying attention and then I remembered, there isn't one!

  • This is beautiful.

  • does it? i thot it might add a fifth in there you can just hardly hear it.

  • man i want steves cymbals there all so thin even the ride sound so shimiry and light

  • Pino...Pino...Whew...Pino for President of your bass club!

  • what's wrong with the guy in the organ???

I know pedal notes are something usable and sounds cool but this G chord is driving me crazy!!!

  • god damnit, now you've got it bothering me

  • There actually is no 'guy', it's just a sample being played throughout the song. I agree that it's freaking annoying though :P

  • John wrote music from the soul! I love it.

  • This is actually the worst ive heard him do this song. Usually he's great but he was really off key here. I guess nothing beats the Live in L.A version.

  • he's not even worrying about the key. he's just playing what he feels. which if i had 2 pick, play in key or play what you feel, I'd pick feeling it anyday. but that's just me.

  • he isn't even that bad

  • agreed, hes even better live than on CD, that solo speaks to it, one of the best ive heard in a long time,

  • his voice at the beginning was seriously so smooth. i love it. if you ever get the chance to see him live, take it. he's amazing.

  • I wanna see him try and play metal haha cuz if he could that would be badass.

  • hey circa215, mayer used to play metal! his early influences were 80's hair metal bands i think. he started playing the blues when he heard SRV. i think he's already badass anyway. just wish he wouldn't play pop anymore.

  • Does a cover of panama by EVH theres a lot of videos on youtube of it

  • yeah john cover panama very nice:D he's sooo very good :D

  • i love the faces he makes when he plays his guitar.its amazing how he feels that music.

  • And that Hammond holding a G Major is annoying...Sounds like he got a roadie and said hold this for the whole song...

  • John Mayer is very good but a blues god he is not. He plays in the wrong modes and box patterns a LOT...

  • There's no such thing as "wrong" modes or box patterns.

  • example please. this isnt the video to be making this statement on because to me it seems like hes not worrying at all about key

  • the solo gaves me goosebumps

  • pretty much the whole solo i can close my eyes and if you told me it was SRV i wouldn't be able to tell the difference

  • their needs be another blues reawakening. a lot of people just don't understand it and it needs to launch again. its the truest form of music in my opinion. except this is more R&B which is still amazing.

  • i think there should be no more bad comments for those who dont like mayer then why are you here watching it. come on poeple grow up

  • what stratocaster is that

i think it might be a john mayer limited edition in olympic white or a 60's strat not sure..?

  • for all the nay sayers out there: this does not suck. just because you don't get the genre of music and it doesnt hit the spot doesnt mean its shit for everyone. don't be so fucking narrow minded.

  • Man. This guy doesn't just love SRV. He worships the ground he walked on. Hands and knees. The scarf, the one handed thing, every lick in his vocabulary. Good fun.

  • the hammer-on section is insane at 4:50

  • what's up with that organ? just playing that one chord through the whole thing. it's very loud, weird, and....invisible.

  • there is some guy in the background...

  • Ha ha, yeah! I was wondering the same thing. It's the John Mayer TRIO, and yet there is an invisible organ player well versed in the G Major chord and it's close variations...

  • its called "panning". it gives the song more depth and reverb.

  • John Mayer's Thizz face at 3:13

    hahaha

  • so what now we can`t apreciate music today just because it has some influence? it`s almost imposible to make a dong without influence because there is a huge volume of music in this world u might make a great song and not even know that it hase some influence from another song.... great songs came out of influence and great song will still come out of influence stop talking shit and btw awesome song ;)

  • Can we get something straight about influence? First John Mayer acknowledges his influences. I swear I get so fucking sick of the influence arguments. EVERYONE WAS INFLUENCED BY SOMEONE! Clapton was influenced by someone, The Commodores orignal writers were influenced by someone! Chuck Berry was influenced by someone! But just because u are influenced doesn't mean you can perform. God-giving talent also has to come into play. I am an African American who enjoys Mayer's music period!

  • yah and you your bullshit would be confined to your own head if it not for youtube

  • this is a "Style" of music. theres nothing new here. Im not saying it shouldnt exist but at the same time, whats the difference.

  • In that case I apologize. I thought you were implying that Mayer or any white blues artist somehow stole the music from black people and was conspiring to hide the fact that it wasn't there's to begin with. I clearly read to much into your comment. Oh well

  • history of music! the blues is born in the mississippi delta invented by black people then the rolling stones and elvis take it and make a fortune. chuck berry invents a style and the beatles take that and make a fortune.

  • singing about hardships(a.k.a. the blues) has been around since music has been around, it's not just an american thing...claiming rights to items such as music is though

  • the blues isn't just about singing about hardships.

  • haha, that was a funny comment...stupid as hell... but funny XD

  • Mayer doesn't inspire or rock?

Because I personally think he does a hell of alot of both.

  • try the commodores or any motown you will hear these riffs

    with the original writers

  • just because mayer dosent insper u, it dosent mean other people arent insperd by him,

    thats just a silly coment.

  • Maybe you ought to watch a few more Mayer videos before you make your moronic statements?

  • the G-string is just strings on the keyboard
