The birds aren't shot in in peices. They're whole (and thawed!). They get wrapped in a styrofoam container, then the bird plus styrofoam cylinder and put in the barrel of an air cannon and they're fired into the engine to simulate flying through a flock of geese. The number of birds that is fired is determined by the engine diameter.
THIS VIDEO IS SO DAM STUPID AND BEYONE , WHEN DO YOU EVER SEE A BIRD FLYING IN MID AIR GOING IN SIDE OF AN ENGINE IN PIECES ? THEY ARE FOOLING THE PUBLIC IN BELIVEING THAT THROWING KFC IN SIDE AN ENGINE AND THE ENGINE NOT DAMAGING SOLVED THE PROBLEM . IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SOLVED THAT PROBLEM THEN THROW A WHOLE CALIFORNIA GOOSE OR SWAN WITH FEATHERS AND ALL AND SEE WHAT HAPPENED . REMEMBER THE PLANE THAT LANDED IN THE HUDSON RIVER , IT WENT DOWN WITH FEATHERS AND ALL . NOT KFC YOU DAM ASS
@ffrgtm YOU SEE HOW SMART YOU ARE I DIDN,T HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT YOU FIGURE IT OUT ALL BY YOUR SELF . YOU SEE WHEN I USED ALL CAPS YOU ACKNOWLEDGE ME IMMEDIATELY LIKE YOU JUST DID . WHICH ONE CAN YOU SEE QUICKER SMALL CAPS OR NO CAPS . SEE IT DID IT INTENDED PURPOSE DIDN,T IT ?
@bonehead1603 These are frozen birds so there actually a lot tougher and harder then a normal bird. I worked in the AR&O part of rolls-royce for a while and every other engine that came in for a service had bits of dead bird in it. A bird wont even touch a RR engine.
@carlstss "A BIRD WONT EVEN TOUCH A RR ENGINE" IF WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE THEN TELL ME . WHY DID THE PLANE THAT LANDED IN THE HUDSON RIVER WHEN DOWN WHEN A GOOSE ENTER THE ENGINE .
@bonehead1603 Right, ok. It was a flock of Geese not just one goose and they entered both engines this is completely unaviodable. Like i said A BIRD (that is just one bird on its own) would not cause much damage if any. But a Flock of Geese not a goose (which is one) could cause damage,
@atav who care if it wasn,t a RR engine or a suzuki , yamah , harley davidson ,etc etc all we know that it was an engine and they test their engine by throwing chicken goose geese etc etc in them . an i know these plane don,t use RR engine in them except for concord and roll royce cars ok now leave me the fu--- alone dam it .
They fire a chicken out a cannon, in order for it to fire out of a cannon properly they use a foam or polystyrene mould around the chicken so the jet of air actually pushes the chicken out, those " bits" you see are the mould, the biggest part is the chicken.
@bonehead1603 This is Rolls Royce, the world forerunner in engine production and manufacture, I am perfectly sure that they, of all people, will be able to do bird strike testing on engines properly.

Those engines get real finicky without their daily frozen turkeys. Got to make sure you keep those rolls-royce beauties well fed.

Every butchery needs one of these.
They'll chop and fry for you in less than a second.
All you have to do is setup a dinner table at the back end XD

@bonehead1603 Judging by your use of all-caps, I'm just going to assume you have a doctorate in aerospace engineering.
