i have a serious question, im currently building an 8 node cluster using AMD. now, will a cluster be able to play graphic intensive games such as Crysis or COD with all the CPU/GPU power working together? and if so, what type of software/OS will i need to do so? the mother boards im using have integrated nvidia graphics, im hoping those GPUs can work together like the CPUs do.

@AlchemistHawk Typically, applications have to be written to specifically use clusters. So a normal game wouldn't use it all together. One option is to use one of a couple software options out there that will automatically move processes from node to node, depending on load, one example is Mosix. If you ran Crysis on the primary computer, Mosix would move all your other (movable) processes to the other nodes, which would reduce the load on your primary system.

@AlchemistHawk I wouldn't say simple tasks, but with how a game like Crysis directly works with the hardware (video card) I am pretty sure it could never migrate anywhere else. Typically clusters/supercomputers are used for number-crunching. Scientific data, codebreaking, etc.

You don't want to make a cluster to rune games. Firstly, it is too much hassle, and secondly, it wouldn't work because all games can only utilize one or two (four at most) cores. If you want a cluster you could use it has something to render videos. Or as a server (game, ftp, web, etc.).

Von so einem Rechner hab ich schon vor 10 Jahren geträumt. Zur Berechnung von 3D-Animationen macht sowas auch heute noch sinn. Nimmt weniger Platz weg, als 5 Einzelrechner und spart auch noch'n bischen Strom.

UGH! thats not 53 Ghz... you CAN'T simply add the frequency of the cores together. Try running a single threaded application and see if it runs any faster. It won't. For that matter, as it's a cluster computer, and not a 20core single computer, most apps won't ever use more than the 4 cores on a single board. Only apps specifically designed for distributed computing will get any performance boost from the cluster. The system would be great to run a small MMO server off of, but not for end users

It makes sense, only Scientific Simulations and bruteforce code decryptions would really benifet from a PC cluster, I was thinking of building a cluster of 4 Dual cores but its seeming like an i-7 is the simplest way to get the performance i want. Does a i-7 split up evenly to make 2 cores if the application has 2 max or do 2 run and 5 do nothing???? seems like u would know, im interested??

die mainboards sind voll für den arsch aus dem einfachen grund das die grafikkarte ne onboard grafikkarte ist und bei aufwendigen spielen kaputt geht da onboard grafikkarten nicht für spiele sondern nur für office anwendungen gedacht sind und bei diesen boards kann man nichts nachrüsten d.h spätestens wenn eine der onboard grafikkarten kaputt ist kann man das board wegschmeißen ich hab nämlich die selbe erfahrung gemacht :P

Für die Rechenleistung sind die flops ausschlaggebend.....wobei der hir angeblich nur 200Gigaflops hat, was eigentlch für einen pc mit 5 cpu`s nicht so berauschen wäre. Die ps3 hat nämlich mit nur einer cpu, dem "Cell-Prozessor", weit über 200gigaflops. Einige reden sogar von 2teraflops.

Moin Mikka. Das ist die ausgerechnete Rechenleistung. PS3 schafft wegen der Cell Architektur mehr... auch weil dort mehrere dieser zellen parallel berechnen können.

Haja, da hast du recht und vorallem hat ein quad core nichtmal 4 kerne, sonder nur 4 Threads. d.h er hat ( wie der name schon sagt "core2quad") zwei kerne, mit jeweils 2 threads pro kern (Threads sind Virtuelle Prozessoren). Mit Ghz kann man sich eh den Hintern abwischen, dass ist nähmlich nur die Takt Frequenz von der cpu und gibt nicht wirklich die Rechenleistung an (wobei eine cpu mit vielen ghz höchstwahrscheinlich auch schnell ist).

Wenns doch so wäre, dann hätte mein i7 ca. 32 ghz.

ehm Mikka, ein QuadCore hat tatsächlich 4 Kerne, die je mit 2,53 GHz rechnen. threads sind nur beoim Core 2 Duo aktiviert. Aufrechnen ist also erlaubt, wenn die parallel rechnen sollen.

Bringt überhaupt nichts.Hab 12 Ghz an meinen PC und das reicht. Zumal ich denke das de3r PC nichts bringt. Sin 5 fast unabhängige PCs die fast nichts bringen. sCHNELLER ALS MEINER IST DER pc SICHER NICHT: Onboard Grafikkarte und dann wurde der PC noch aus hardware resten zusammen gebaut die cd laufwerke.

Finde das gehäuse und das gebaute sehr interessant hut ab.
