Pitchers are not fit to pitch is pretty much how it is .
In my opinion the main reason is that pitchers are not learning how to use their body's which leaves their arm to do the brunt of the work. Scientific research tells us that the body in it's throwing movement should execute "3"pivots which should work in a sequenced. hip to shoulder chain reactive movement and should be executed at the proper time and in the proper sequence.
Listen to what Dick says about bull pen blocks & rest times in between each block, bull pens of which there should be two per. week with pitching one game per. week only.
Bull pens are for working things out, the intensity and time between pitches needs to be at a lower intensity and slower pace than game intensity & times in between pitches. Practice bull pens are different than prior to game bull pens, 100 pitches per game = 10 blocks of 10 pitches per. block.
just in case you still site in here after your comment 2yrs. ago about Dick Mills recommendation of throwing 75 pitches before a game, I am sure that dick never meant to do that just prior to going to the mound to pitch a game, I am sure he meant to do so during your off days bull pen routines. Don Ervin
You are correct in this aspect. I throw 100 pitches 3 times a week. The only time I skip is I don't pitch two days in a row and I don't practice on game day. Your momentum pitching is correct we need to keep our young ones safe from these little league coaches who know nothing. Another important aspect to mention is point with the glove then pull it in as the ball comes around for release. So its not only front to back momentum its also the rotation of the hips that adds speed. Like a karatejab
this in game. if you look at pitcher warming up on the mound they take less then 5 second. the only reason it could be true is in out of game practice if you wanna increase your speed and spotting, when nobodys waiting , yea maybe it could work
I don't know about a full half minute but taking time between pitches helps the pitcher rest and replenish his arm allowing him to throw more pitches if necessary and also to calm down and focus. Give this guy some credit everyone hates on him so badly but most of the things he talks about are true and helpful.
this guy is retarted throw 75 pitches before each game? and throw like that 40 in the game? thats retarted dude i dont know where u get ur facts casue they are wrong
Well...this is what professional pitchers used to do including me. If you do not throw enough pitches in practice how do you maintain the skill level to have control of all your pitches or maintain the fitness level to throw 100 plus pitches in a game? This is why pitchers today lack command and are getting injured so frequently. They are simply not "fit to pitch."
If all big leaguers took 30 seconds between pitches, the game would last for 5 hrs....MLB is trying its best to speed the game up as it is...at one point trying to implement a time limit in between pitches...and it wasnt 30 seconds...not rocket science or reinventing the wheel!!
I believe the rule is 20 seconds and its to speed up the game b/c of idiots like steve traschel (bad spelling). This idiot pitchesd games that last over 4 hours. i'm pretty sure his defense hated him. If you want to be better at pitching and hitting spots, its about concentration through repitition. It's all about feel, confidence, and to rely on your mechanics. End of story
Taking 30 seconds between practice pitches helps pitchers make the needed mental and physical adjustments. It increases learning. "Mapping" the pitch or creating an image of making a better pitch is proven to work to improve ball control. Rapid fire pitching is fatiguing and has little benefit. The 40 pitch bullpen in 10-12 minutes is largely a waste of time and does not create improvement. We cover this in our book The Science And Art Of Baseball Pitching...all back by studies.
"who da hell waits half a minute per every pitch?" i donno probably someone who is listening to their coach because they realize they they dont know everything about baseball.. someone who wants to get better would wait 20 seconds between pitches when throwing a 75 pitch bull pin ...
How long should you wait between "blocks"?

i do agree with some of your mechanics, but some are just down right wrong. sorry

Filmanqc, are you saying that a bullpen, and warming up before a game, are the same thing?
Mr. Mills, are you saying we should maintain this 30 second rest period while warming up for a game, or just while throwing an extended bullpen?
