First off, props on the strength training. I would like to clarify that there is no such thing as "bouncing" weights off your chest. There is, however, a technique used to make weight lifting easier. Using the momentum of the weight instead of controlling it results in lesser effort from the person lifting it. I honestly wouldn't recommend doing this because you can seriously damage your diaphragm especially with that much weight.

The reason why you must pause for 2 seconds with the bar no more than .5" off of your chest is so that you don't bounce the weight off of your chest (or arms), pop your chest, arch your back, etc. providing upward momentum, robbing you from the real lift. Just like a spotter "barely" touching the bar helps you complete a lift.

@tropicthunderdancers I had your same problem. I got a good friend to spot me. You put on more weight than you could normally do for a max, then you go as slow as you can on your down-lift, then your friend assists you to get it to the top. Do this just like normal bench set/reps.
