The crucifix, the bible and garlic were all inventions of Stoker to ward off vampires. Previous to his novel, vampires existed in mythologies all over the world, and there were no mentions of those things.

This film is actually surprisingly decent - the ending is silly, but the rest is actually pretty suspenseful. This scene is undoubtedly one of the best in the series! Christopher Lee gets to imitate Lugosi and Peter Cushing is the coolest Van Helsing ever.

Yes... it's called "The Satanic Rites of Dracula". It's a bit hard to get on a decent DVD release, but if you can find the old DVD from Anchor Bay... it's certainly not the best film ever made, but it's good fun.

They were also good friends. Christoper lee said in an interview that in '96 he and cushing worked together for the last time. As Cushing was driving away, lee felt that he would never see him again. Cushing died soon after.

The extraordinary thing about Peter Cushing was that ok some of the movies he was in were truly awful but he adds a real quality to them. He was never really silly or overly camp. He did it straight and it worked. That's a mark of genius I think.
