Knowing that the High Street is undergoing re-development actually gives me great sadness. Me and my friends loved walking down the High road to Brick Lane for a big night out on weekends. Bethnal Green is authentic London. It's real, and raw and sometimes unsettling. As I reflect on my years spent in London, it stirs some romantic nostalgism within me. I love Bethnal Green. East London is my Northern Hemisphere home and I miss it immensly!

Lived in Bethnal Green 3 years, because I wanted to avoid emersing myself in the 'Aussie' atmosphere of places like SheBu, Acton and South London. Grimey? Yes. More dangerous than the clean and sterile streets of Adelaide, Australia? Certainly. But Bethnal Green became my home and I have great affection for it's landmarks and it's people.

Good on those that are active citizens in Bethnal Green and Bow. I am sure that the vast majority of those that work for the community are well intentioned and do not work to create division in society.

Remember that if it was not for the sacrfices of the white community to stand up against facism from the likes of Moseley and from racists generally then it would have been very difficult to settle in the area.

So think before you comment.

Jeez, if you want to see a run down area come to Stoke-on-Trent and some of the towns in the Midlands. The only part that looked bad in this video was the flats.

Finally a copper in middle of road yelled again, it was an ex army mate joined Police force. I wonder about him now.

i live in bethnal green and its one of the best neighbourhoods in london. friendly people, real people and great pubs. sure it has rough parts but feels safer than many parts of london.

i lived in East London all me life but i moved out of bethanl green area around 6 years back but i still go down there as all me family lives down that way but this video does show how much of shit hole it really as got other the last couple of years, but nothing is going to change that the council have tried there hardest but when they start to make it look nice some cunt just comes along and break its over writes alover it

My, this looks much grimmer than reality. Go there on a sunny Saturday and film more people and fewer cars. Go to Roman Road Market. Don't agree about the murders either, Tower Hamlets at least was quite low in 2006 (3) in comparison to Lambeth (15) and Newham (13) (Met Police says so). So don't put down the area. Yes, it's poor, but it has its good sides. I live in Globe Town too. At least it's not pretentious like Shoreditch has become a few blocks west.
