@doyoulikewaffles360 I was shipped a box of these from California. Some had the tops but they were pretty ripe by the time I received them so many had lost the tops. It's hard to keep em fresh when they go from Thailand to California and then way over to the East Coast. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I practically live on these things at the moment, I buy 6 Kilos for $3 USD. The shell shouldn't be too hard, I never use a knife to open them, just a soft squeeze with my hand is usually enough. If they are hard, there no good anymore. I don't see how they wouldn't be hard after being shipped OS. They are going to be ridiculous overpriced and horrid quality. Just eat what's local and abundant or come and visit me in Thailand :)

@Leonj24 Yes you are lukcy, you get them fresh. I will have to come visit so I can see the difference;) By the time they get here they've traveled quite a long time and have been irradiated so they aren't always in the best shape. Thanks for watching.
D: i heard it's impossible to get them (fresh) in america, because they can't grow them here because of weather, and if they ship them in they'd be bad by the time they got to you because the plane ride is REALLY long. i'm not sure if that's true or not, but either way, i can't find a mangosteen anywhere near me...
@magicapplesauce Nope, you can get them in the US. Sorry you can't find any. There is a chain called Harris Teeter on the East Coast that has them. They are imported and only recently started arriving here because they have to be irradiated. Thanks for watching.
@chunkymilk yeah they can be hard to find and expensive but they are a great little exotic fruit to try when you get your hands on one. Thanks for the comment!
I saw the mangosteen in a textbook and I really really want to try one. All the other videos said to pull out the stem and squeeze the shell to get the fruit out, how come you cut it? Either way, good video.
Thanks for the comment. That is certainly a method I haven't heard of...did it work? cutting is just the way I know how to do it but if thats an easier way to do it and it works I'd love to give it a shot.
@RVO174 when I take my yearly trip to koh samui thailand I try to eat as many of these guys as possible there delicious i learnt the hand cracking method aswell are the seeds inedible because they are toxic or just hard? because i cant remember not eating the seeds XD
@joeydude117 that's awesome that's where I heard about them. I just went to the store yesterday and got one to try for the first time. They really are amazing. The perfect fruit, just a little expensive.
@SNYDAMAAN Haha no way, where did you get one? The only place near me that would possibly have them is an Asian grocery store, but I haven't gone yet. They're really hard to find!
Great Video Ray! So awesome you managed to acquire some mangosteen as this is such a hot commodity in our industry right now! I will be sure to pass this one along!! So many people will enjoy this!
Why did you not show how to open them without a knife? It's quick and easy.

I'm a little curious why those mangosteens don't have the flower shaped caps? When I get them that always have the caps.
