  • Su mayor exito?'?andas cagado!!!!!!!

  • Check out my videos please! :o)

  • Mary wells is beautiful women!!...my nana loves this women like no other!

  • If they ever did a biopic on Mary Wells who would you see playing her?

I think Gabrielle Union would be a good choice.

  • Guy to God and this could be an AWESOME praise song!

  • @merlan114 They actually did that in the movie Sister Act.

  • oh wow. so many of us need to bow before her. She just rocks.

  • Such a shame what happened to American music. Britain ruined it for us. Once the Beatles came along, the British Invasion began - almost every new popular artist was British, and it destroyed America's impact on music forever.

  • Thanks a million Mary, you brought us youngsters into a new era

  • she has a good voice

  • omg

  • nothing you can say can make me feel bad cause i'am high i'am high i'am high.

  • Thumb up if this is one of your favorite songs!

  • great voice, love how she ends the song

  • she messed up she would have made it well into 1970 if she had stayed with motown, she would have been on the charts like crazy because motown hadnt even created that sound yet and her voice would have been perfect for that motown bass sound, but she left too soon.

  • Replace the words my guy with Yahweh !!

  • We miss and love you Mary. May you rest in peace.

  • pretty and great voice. she got the shaft by motown and her management (husbands). should have had many more hits. died too young, rip. love her

  • @joanicel that's because Warpaints song "Billie Holiday" is part remake of this song, and was somewhat an ode to Billie Holiday.

  • I distinctly remember listening to this song at Frosty Freds on Lackland Air Force Base when I was in basic training the summer of 1963. Brings back some wonderful memories (not of basic training). Great song, great singer..........what could be better?

  • Smokey Robinson wrote a classic for her! Great lyrics

  • war paint's lyrics reminded me of this song

  • Oh my God. I didn't know Mary Wells had died. She was only 6 years older than me. They call her the Queen of Motown.

  • @mangledinal too bad. she carried motown and they loved her when she was bringing the money but when she got sick they kicked her to the curb. she was penniless after she payed for her cancer treatments and motown held back her royalties. a real shame

  • @denisjl100 Motown held back royalties to a lot of the talent from what I've heard over the years. That they could do that to her when she was sick is reprehensible. Hope there's a HOT place in the bottom of HELL for them!

  • @mangledinal motown wasn't the only record label that held back royalties. it was a common practice by companies. elvis changed a lot of that. he got royalties for all song he sang. companies expected the singers to earn their living by touring. if you were not the flavour of the month you made no money. for one hit wonders you found another job. not fair. companies made fortunes on singers backs and gave nothing back

  • @denisjl100 ok so this is untrue many of the former motown stars came to her aid while she was sick.Smokey,Berry,Diana,Martha all helped her finacially while she was sick with cancer

  • @legedaryone i didn't say her friends didn't help her, i said motown didn't help her. there was an ongoing lawsuit in the 80's or 90's to try to get record labels to give royalties to singers who were down and out and no longer able to preform. i really don't know where that went.

  • Me and Mine called this our song in 63

  • Mary Wells was a super singer her songs brings back a mountain of memories. My heart went out to Mary when she told the world she was leaving us and to take care of her baby girl, it was touching. I pray ALLAH her children are all well and Allah excepts her into his kingdom. My farther n law Crawford a native of Hurtsboro AL. always said they were relatives and their family s lost touch years before then, May Peace be upon him also and may ALLAH excepts him into his kingdom as well. PEACE!

  • my mother used to sing this to my father...nice memory

  • This is my great aunt no joke swear to god

  • MINE!! MINE!!!! MINE!!!!!

  • Warpaint - Billie Holiday

  • none of those autotune tricks!

  • One of the best song ever. When this came on the radio you always knew it note for note.

  • Nothing you could say

Can tear me away from my guy

    Nothing you could do

'Cause I'm stuck like glue to my guy!! :3

    B A R N E Y <3

  • a shame this was stretched out. great vid but just wish I could see it without her looking dwarfish. :(

  • LOL! she strutted on that stage like "yall better recognize!!!!!! love you, Mary!!!!

  • @enriquetheprofessor She did, didn't she. I loved too

  • Love It :-)

  • love her!! she was always so classy, poised, and mature for her age!!!!! thank you mary for your gift.

  • Love u Mary

  • Mary Wells was cute, but messing around with two brothers and having children by them both - insane!

  • Mary Wells, Tammi Terrell, and Flo Ballard were the true black beauties of the 60's and original queens. The rest were imitators.

  • @MusicandDancing4 Ever Spot on!! Add to those three Martha, Gladys, Kim, Brenda etc etc. All had far more talent and Soul than the dreadful dross, Motowns most over-rated singer.

  • What a beautiful song

  • I just love the internet. Where else could I pick up this great music so quickly. I would like to dedicate this song "MY GUY" to my boy friend and all the other women whose lovers may be in jail, over seas or out of town. We sister must keep holding on. I love Jay and nothing you could do could take me away from my Guy. Peace. So gonna vibe and keep that smie on my face.

  • This brings back memories to me too, including watching her sing this on Shindig. It is exactly like I remember it.It is hard to forget Mary Wells.Always thought she was very attractive.A great singer too.

  • i played this to death and all my family started to pack their bags after about six months, they couldn't take it no more, good on yer Mary

  • I used to listen to this while cooking pasta.

  • This brought back so many good memories. Thanks a lot for posting it.

  • Thanks to PabloZaragoza for uploading! They don't make music like this! Soooo sad!

  • What Paul O'Neil said about Mary Wells being The Beatles' favourite singer was no word of a lie. As a matter of fact, they were HER warm-up act on certain legs of their first U.S. tour. Btw, Mary Wells defined the Motown sound years before any other female singer. And I do mean ANY female singer.

  • "I gave my guy my word of honor/to be faithful/Aaron Carter!"

-what I thought she was saying as a child

  • My mama used 2 wear dis record out when i was a kid. Damn Mary Wells was fine!

  • Eress el mass puto

  • rip...cantaba chingon

  • RIP and Happy Birthday Mary Wells: May 13, 1943 – July 26, 1992

  • @rocktenniscat Mary has the same birthday as Ritchie Valens 5/13/41, Stevie Wonder 5/13/50 and Bea Arthur 5/13/24

  • 2:32 video: "My Guy" by Smokey Robinson; 1964 #1 hit single for and sung by Mary Wells (May 13, 1943 – July 26, 1992).

  • Mary Wells, the real Queen of Motown and it's first international superstar.

  • Couldn't have sung any better. I remember this at the very time she sang it and it was awesome as well as it still is today. Thank you Mary Wells

  • Wonderful.

  • "word of honor" enough said!

  • this tackes me back to the 60sgood memories

  • IM A HUGE ADMIRER OF HER MUSICAL SUCCESS!

  • billie holiday!

  • @hunterthompsyn

    YES!

  • I JUST GOT TORN AWAY FROM MY GUY OH WELL WHAT A WASTE

  • sorry Diana Ross sorry Mary Wells but HELEN SHAPIRO is the greatest

  • I like Mary Wells. She is also pretty and thanks for all your enjoyable songs Mary.

And...I like her voice in this song more than her other songs.

She reminds me a bit of Lauryn Hill. Watch Doo Wop That Thing by LH.

    One of the best

  • gorches

  • Most of Mary Wells best material was written by Smokey. I don't think this detracts from her legacy. The artists today that don't sample hire songwriters & collaborate. I think of them as the hard workers and the samplers as slackers.

  • One day i was driving with my GF who liked R&B & Two lovers came on the radio. The song grabbed my attention and I fell in love instantly with Mary Wells' music. How ironic is it that the sweetest voice of all time, succumbed to throat cancer?

  • i prefer warpaints version

  • I was eight in '64 when this came out, and I used to listen to this on my little AM 9 transistor radio. I was intent on catching those mammoth 300 hit countdowns to the number one song on KHJ or KFWB LA, Ca. and this one was Number 1 for I dunno how many wks.You knew it was "My Guy" because the harmonized brass intro resembled the sound of "car horns".I especially liked the ending when they hush some of the instrumentation and she starts getting "sassy" and syncopated with the lyric.

  • This was Mary's biggest hit. Written by Smokey Robinson.

  • Before Rhianna...before Whitney...before Chaka...before Aretha...before Diana...there was Mary Wells.

She was the world's first female soul singer. It really is just that simple.

  • @arkady714 And for me, the real queen of Motown. Not Diana the pretender.

  • #156 my guy best songs of the 60s

#155 hard days night the beatles

  • ive been listenin to mary for 46 years

i still lookin for a gal like her

  • Is it wrong that this video gave me a boner????

  • I am mesmerized by her charisma.

  • Those good old days, thank god I can appreciate it from this era LOL cause I don't think I could handle the dogs, fire hydrants and burning crosses

  • Even live she sounds great..

  • Reading the biographies of Maya Angelou gave me a better understanding of how black people were only accepted in White America as actors, singers, etc and why the entire audience is white. I'd recommend those books to anyone interested in the early beginnings of black showbusiness. :)

  • omg! i love this song!even @25!!! get dancing oh ya!:):)

  • Ohhh, do I remember seeing Mary do this on Shindig! All-time Smokey Classic. Wolfsky9

  • Go girl. Go. Love ya and RIP. I will always miss you Ms. Wells. You had it.

  • did anyone notice the gaps in the motown singers teeth

  • @irock738 it's a trait in all people all races. It's hereditary if back in the day, your fore father's were omnivores or carnivores.

  • Warpaint brought me here :)

  • レコード持ってる!

    今きいても素晴らしい!

  • what a great live take!

  • Mary Wells was the first lady of Motown and "My Guy" was Motown's first million dollar hit by a female artist. She had made history. After several years and several hits at Motown, she made a big mistake by thinking she had gotten big enough to leave Motown to make more money at another label, even before her contract ended. But her career was never the same after she left Motown and her big success was basically over after that.

  • great song...and if the beatles like her she had to be good :)

  • traducir al español por favor!!

  • What I liked about Mary, she stayed in the neighborhood of Motown, and would take songs she written for other artist to Berry and Berry ask her, why don't you sing your songs, and there it is.!! RIP

  • Comment removed

  • I loved her music! I saw an interview of her shortly before her death. She had lost most of her voice. She was very worried about her little girl! RIP Mary...so missed

  • The First and only Queen of Motown

  • Mary i have always loved you since i bought my first of your records :the one who really loves you: ..Still love you after all these years...R.I.P.

  • Mary Wells was HUGE at Motown back in the day.

What is the common comment for all of these old Motown songs? Music today generally sucks compared to the "masters" of old. However, check out the songs/videos of one young English artist named Dionne Bromfield (Amy Winehouse's protege) who has covered the Motown classics with a freshness not seen in years. There is hope for the world yet, Old Skool people like myself!

  • wow her live voice is soo much better than the recorded version!!!

  • Keep praying and don't tell them until they realize it. Maybe one day they will get it.

  • mary wells kicked fucking ass!!!!

  • I like the way she walks on stage. Wow, what self-confidence.

  • @imjustpassinthru looks more nervous to me

  • @imjustpassinthru

    She is walkin' that walk!

  • @ANASTASIACHAVEZFILM True, it's not like you guys had much choice... It just sucks that you're being targeting for the kind of music they're selling to today's youth culture.

  • This was on Friends oand I wanted to hear the official music wideo

  • @LORDFAMOUSTAR human life is just a coincidence...

  • @PabloZaragoza YO mama could be mine.

  • @PabloZaragoza how? that does not make any sense at all. if you can explain what you mean the n maybe i can get down with what you are saying

  • @LORDFAMOUSTAR

    Keep it to yourself.

  • @skipper8257 .........i have the free will ,if you are a believer and christian ,then you know what it is all about ,more of GOD ,and less of you(((john 3:30)) !ephesians 6:6 not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men..........................

    GOD BLESS YOU!!! skiprer8257 !

  • It looks like Darlene Love singing background (in the middle). ?????? Could it be????

  • my babe.

  • I'm tempted to dance like the people in the background ._.

  • love my oldies.. im only 40 gew up with the music

  • Mary was a talented lady of Motown!

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • after reading that smokey robinson wrote this song, i listened to it again. i now notice a similarity between mary wells's voice here and smokey robinson's voice on "my girl."

  • Hey folks, no lip singing here. Ms. Mary Wells a true legendary singer and the backbone of the early Motown Sound. "My Guy" was a big hit for the Motown Label. Great memories of the 60's for me.

  • great song, just timeless. sounds as good now as then. thats how it is with all good music. thats what makes a classic tune. my issue with much of todays recordings is that their not music. their rymthm minus music. the clock on the wall ticks in rymthm but has no music. whats refered to as rap is just monotone chanting in rymthm.but thats not music. music has hamony, acending and desending notes, and melody. I dont think these people should recieve music awards. they need their own awards venue.

  • Come on we can do WAY better than the disgusting trash the snake ran music industry is promoting doesnt mean we have to get into that which brings Gods Chosen People down HELLO We have so much soul and bloodline roots that snakeass people dont want us to know let alone sing about nah keep on drilling it in r own heads the hate towards one another Fly things and gang violence and assshaking should NOT make us feel proud or valuable They laugh while we kill ourselves bumping evryday RISE UP

  • My Guy returns tomorrow.......Been apart for two weeks......After all these years He's STILL THE ONE!!!!!!!

  • QUE VOZ MARAVILHOSA!

  • For Margy, enjoy , girl , enjoy ! Willie D AKA Billy "D" ICHS Class of `61

  • Brings back fond memories thanks

  • si haria todo por my chico.....porke lo amo ylo respeto... ohhesta cancion me llena ohh yeahhhhh

  • I will always love u Mary 1962 4 ever

  • THE JIMMY ONEAL SHOW & 1110 KRLA LOS ANGELES CA

  • Wow, what confidence! See the way she walks on stage.

  • A great song and an even greater voice.

  • Rap is rap and cannot be compared to singing. Thus it's stupid to even compare the two. Rap is a form of Hip Hop poetry.

  • Just great!

  • Seriously, why can't we love this music nowadays? Now its all about making women items and whores. Hopefully my children can be sorrounded with songs like this, which would promote faithfulness and the videos which show girls who don't have to undress to be "respected".

  • Why isn't this kind of music popular today? To much flashy, weird, loud, and negative mainstream singers these days.

  • What a beautiful voice and song! I love the lyrics, singing and presentation of all these great groups of that era! She is so appealing and memorable. Bless all the creative musicians and song writers of the 60's and 70s popular music. I believe their music will be appreciated and remembered for generations. The lyrics and music of Folk singers, Troubadours, Motown artists, Rock bands of that era have an enduring quality to their that will be enjoyed for years to come, ... I hope and pray!

  • P.S. i loved Mary Wells, she came to Sacramento all the time she was great and such a nice woman. She looked beautiful up to the end. R.I.P. Mary you are still heard and remain in our hearts XOX God bless and much love.

  • OMG did he say Shin Dig? wow im old i loved that show and yes i seen her and i remember seeing Manfred Man who sang "do wa ditty" omg i loved that song it was on a saturday morning & it came on and my friend and i ran down the stairs to watch them sing it. We were so excited to see them lol. those were the days. I do like todays artist & I respect their music too hip hop R&B. Snoop dog, Dr. Dre, 3 6 mafia, Ludacris, Eminem, the list is too long but you know what I mean. I'm 53 and I appreciate

  • rip mary wells

  • It really makes you wonder what happened to music like this. I'm not a fan of rap or hip-hop, but it's the mainstream that gives these music genres a bad name. I just wish THIS genre of music would return, but sadly I'm afraid it would just be ruined by the current generation.

  • jamsmitty shut up... rap is great music.... ever heard of eminem ???

  • I believe that the old era is coming back it's much better than today's era. Today's

era is just too confussing the words just don't sooth you.

  • Motown music is fantastic--witness the fantastic Mary Wells--I try not to go there with the music of other generations. I try to listen to some of it all and I have to agree with jamsmitty10--my teen grandchildren and I trade YouTubes all the time

  • This is one of the catchiest melodies EVER. I defy anyone to keep their toes from tapping when they hear this. Such a happy, positive song. Wonderful.

  • Gracias Pablo Que calidad!

I was 14 when this came out. Good times!!

  • how wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG! Love Mary Wells....

  • thanks for the add of this video/song:O)
