Along with many other people I don't agree with the new code; it's so silly that men get to show off their strength and flexibility whilst women are MEANT to show their artistry and beauty whilst performing but with the new code it's completely contradictory!!! And I think it's great that Ivana is happy with the change in academy, but I don't think that floor routine was really suited to her; I think she's more of a bold performer...less balletic.
You can definitely tell what gymnasts are coached by Valeri Liukin in how they are trained to swing on uneven bars. I feel as if Ivana as well as Rebecca Bross tend swing like Nastia, similar elements as well
Ivana did a good job, honestly but about the step deductions- women OBVIOUSLY aren't men and women's "ARTISTIC" gymanstics loses the artistic parts if you're expected to land your tumbling passes like men!
I used to ride the Ivana-train, but I think I'm over her. She's an okay gymnast with fabulous form, but she has terrible amplitude (why can't they fix that?), poor consistency, a complete lack of lightness, and has almost completely weeded out the interesting elements in her old routines (think, the German giant on bars, the AMAZING double front on floor). I just don't think she's that interesting or influential a gymnast anymore.
but the way the rules are today gymnast like anna pavlova are overlooked even though she is one of the gymnasts that puts the a in artistic gymnastics.pretty soon there will be no gymnasts with any real artistic value like shawn johnson because difficulty is being taken over artistic value and consistency!!
@MRdavenport2010 no... as a male gymnast I always hated watching the women be allowed to step out with no deductions... men have always had to stick the landing with no movement. I'm glad the women and men are going to have landings that look more similar now.... plus, the women basically only had to over rotate their skills and then step out gracefully... i'm sorry but that doesn't qualify as a stuck landing in my book...
@tellmeJO Things will only be fair when men have to prance around and be "artistic." How is it fair that men only have to tumble and show off their strength and flexibility when women have to show off artistry and are actually deducted when there's a lack of it? Don't try to make the two sports equal, because they simply aren't.
@MRdavenport2010 how is a step back artistic? i agree that the sport has lost alot of it's grace but in this instance i hardly think a step back is artistic.

While Hong is a better dancer than some, I'm sorry, but if you're going to choose Baraksanova's music you should probably at least TRY to emulate her grace. These short, choppy movements and random poses seem to have very little to do with what is going on in the music. A perfect example of floor music becoming background music. Other than that, I am pleased to see she is back on track. She seems mentally more together and her form is, as always, immaculate. Maybe Nastia should take lessons.
what the heck ! i didnt know the new rules were so strict.. i mean come on man, how many people can go without a step on landing for floor. its crazee
i know. i didn't even know the rules changed again. and they wanted the gymnasts to land with feet together, as the commentator said. it's impossible.
Frankly, it was absolutely absurd of WOGA to even consider recycling music so exquisitely danced by Baraksanova. Reusing "My Sweet and Tender Beast" is about the same as someone trying to reuse Omelianchik's birdie music. It's just a dumb, dumb, dumb idea because they are routines that cannot be topped or even matched!
her new beam and floor routines are pretty simular to nastia's after switching to WOGA.... i love her new routines but I think they should atleast have different mounts and finishing poses. (on floor)
Darkeyes2404: I've had the same feeling about her floor set when I saw her at Covergirl Classic. But I think she has already improved quite a bit for this meet trying to match her movements with the music.Seems to me that she's under a lot of pressure, trying to prove something to herself and to the people around.
Really hope she can relax a little to let her routines flow!
i like ivana's gymnastics but does anyone else feel that this floor routine is a little overrated, i think the music is beautiful but in a way i don't think she does it any justice, her movements look very rehearsed and almost forced and there's alot of pauses like she's just waiting around, there's no feeling or lightness to it to match the lyrical music, just my opinion, but i still think she has wonderful form and has improved alot since moving to WOGA

I guess someone like Gina Gogean wouldn't have minded the new rule- cuz she always tried to stick her floor passes with feet together cold.
spartyutube 2 years ago
the new rules suck its like asking the gymnast's kill yourself or elese.they are taking out more and more artistic value of gymnastics

is nastia's dad her coach now? cos if he is her routines now are pretty similar to nastia's. I think she has improved though.
IngoDingo101 2 years ago
nastia's dad is the head coach at woga. so yes, he would most likely be her coach
i thought the same thuing about her routines though. similar beam mount, bars dismount, end pose on floor, first tumble on beam......
hmmmmmmm
beautiful though
