1.) It is Capo'd on the first fret.

2.) He plays a variation of the rift. Since the song is originally tuned to open, most people don't have time to do that during live shows. So they make a variation of the song using standard tuning.

Just stay near the G and B string near the 2nd/4th Fret (from the Capo). You should get something good. Most people do a slide between the 2nd and 4th fret. Something like this:

G| 2/4-4-4-4/2-----

D| ----------------2-0

I play a different variation of this, however slightly. I strum all the way, and as I'm strumming the D Chord I just slide my G finger all the way up to 4, and do this: (D)
