Don't see what the big deal is about the mic, it's a standard broadcasting mic, and he is a broadcaster. They just need to get a proper broadcast engineer out there sort out their sound and other technical stuff, they can even contract one rather than hire permanently.

Nowadays Hulu isn't defaulty integrated into Boxee but you can hack it to make it work. and boxee works on windows now too.

Boxee is at a good start, but I ended up going back to XBMC. The Boxee theme just doesn't support all the features of XBMC, such missing more views that are possible and the lack of fan art support is disappointing (unless I'm missing something?). The only reason I even kept Boxee on my TV's media center Mac Mini is all the pluggins it has like Hulu. I hate that I can't tell it that a folder is a movie or a show, and a lack of other settings. I'll stick to XBMC for the most part.

I don't understand why anyone would use a power hungry laptop or HTPC vs these smaller devices.

If Microsoft or Sony would've got their act together and made a decent GUI for media sorting, we wouldn't have to resort to these devices. The GUI on XBOX and PS3 sucks for finding and playing media files. Only Apple has seem to get it right, with their Apple TV.

another thing to note is a program called media companion. it will scan through your xbmc library files to find your movies and tv shows, and systematically create .nfo files and thumb files for each episode or movie to ensure the content is always correct. this vastly improves XBMC's library scan speed.

boxee is still beta and has bugs, so you shouldnt compare a final product (xbmc) with a beta (boxee). boxee is becoming more accurate with metadata every update and once it is final, it will be great competition for xbmc moovida etc etc...

XBMC is super sweet with an xbox and a wireless controller, also you can play games on it and supports emulators.

Safely, about 750gig.

You can put a 1tb in it, but i wouldnt recommend it. But remember that the XBOX is networked with your PC, so it will play anything from that hdd too.

I have 300gig in the box, and an external 1tb for my PC, i just stream to my box via the wireless network for any films etc on the external hdd. Works for me.

1tb works fine with the Xbox but you must make sure your cluster size is set correctly or else errors will occur and data just disappears. I believe 1tb would need 128k. The app Xbparitioner v1.1 will do this automatically based on the HDD size but not ver 1.0.

I run an old XBox too & reduced the fan speed by an inline resistor from Maplin on one of the fan leads. Also replaced the existing 3.5" HD with a 2.5" drive from an old Laptop plus a bit of padding. The smaller drive runs cooler & quieter & makes it virtually inaudible. The Perfect Media Centre for £50 !

Just one correction. The original XBox is capable of 720p and 1080i playback using the HD AV pack. I've been using XBMC with my hacked Xbox for over three years now and I actually prefer it to my PS3 as a front-end. The video quality is just as good and XBMC has samba support as well as many other features that set it apart. The XBox is pretty loud though.

you can set the fan to automatic mode. it should then spin at 2%. which is really low. this option is in xbmc.
