Nightwish w/Tarja was extraordianary. She brought not only her powerful voice (that was as powerful as the vibes w/Marcos) but a vision. It was like watching a fantasy w/her clothing, hair, beauty. The breakup was unfortunate, they were fantastic. To me the sadness is the lost of their dream of creating this astounding sound and their friendship. Blaming won't solve anything, they lived breakup, and surely they all suffered. Peace be with them.
I agree. Sometimes we have to let go, to appreciate what we had. The fact that it's been a few years that Tarja has left, is a testiment to the sound they created as a group. I love it.
Thank you for the info, perhaps gratitude comes at a cost. It is regretable, because whatever differences Tarja and the group felt became the reason they let her go. I recently discovered NightWish and they are fantastic! I'm sad to discover that Tarja has left the group. She definitely was the "IT" factor with Marcos Halapainen. Annette is good too, but the strength of the vibes fit Tarja well and made NightWish unusual and just phenomenal! The last few minutes of this video never fail to get to me - I get goosebumps and tear up every time. Nightwish is still a great band, but they're definitely lacking something that once made them an extraordinary band, and that something is Tarja. Anette's not a bad vocalist, but she doesn't have what it takes to make this music extraordinary like it used to be.

I hate Alone in the dark, it's a really bad movie, but the soundtrack is amazing, everytime it's on TV i wait until the end just to hear I Wish I had An Angel, Nightwish is just that amazing, they make bad movies epic with just one song.

You're wrong. Tarja didn't say she would leave until Dec of 2004, and she said it privately to the band, saying she'd like to do one more album and one more tour before starting a solo effort. You're full of shit concerning her "lover", who is and was her HUSBAND as of several years. She DID tour the US and UK you dolt, look at the NW past concerts. They toured the US in 2003 and 2004, and the UK many times.

However, that's a lie. There are MANY clips of Tarja rehearsing with the band before a performance.
As far as how they recorded their albums, Toumas INSISTED that Tarja develop the vocals on her own without the band, using recorded tapes of the instrumentals to rehearse with. He WANTED her performing as a trained classical vocalist, and felt it more "pure" if she did it that way. He did NOT want her input in the song orchestrations or arrangements.
Then being the nice guy he is, he blames Tarja for what HE basically DEMANDED.

Sorry if you took it personal, but as far as the letter, it's a bunch of bullshit which is EASILY found to be bullshit if you bother doing any research into the facts. You need to read Marcello's response to the NW letter, and listen to the Tarja interview after her dismissal. There are two sides to every story, however, the NW letter is extremely misleading, and can be seen as a dishonest ration of mud slinging designed to hurt Tarja both personally and professionally.
What is PLAINLY obvious is that Tarja has INCREDIBLE passion when she performs, and it is obvious that she has dedicated her life to singing as she does. That is FAR different than how she is portrayed in the letter, and is FAR different than their new singer who sounds like she'd be unable to get a leading part in a high school musical.
The guys in NW apparently wanted a party girl, and didn't care what her voice sounded like...
BTW, did you know that they fired her behind the stage of this concert as soon as they walked off? They handed her a letter and told her to open it the next day, then walked away from her. What a bunch of cowards and asswipes, doing that to a founding member of the band who had just put on an incredbile performance, and still had tears of joy in her eyes.
Not only that, they made sure they aired their dirty laundry in public, publishing their "letter" on the net the next day.
As far as Anette, she was a poor choice for a replacement. It's almost as if Tuomas deep down inside wanted to rub it in Tarja's face that he could replace her with anyone he felt like, even with a person who couldn't sing that well and lacked stage presence, and STILL make a ton of money and be adored by the fans.
Indeed i don't see the problem most of those fan(natic)s have. just compare to Guns N' Roses: there's only axl rose left of the original band (he's an asshole we all know) but chinese democracy is not just bad because slash didn't play there. indeed it's a fuckin' great album. not a gnr album indeed. but only because the name is still the same the music don't have to.
His primary motivations appear to be revenge, spite, and egotism, brought upon by the fact she didn't fall for him when he tried to woo her with his lyrics. I'm sure her popularity with the fans had something to do with it as well, where he felt he was being slighted and ignored and she was stealing his glory.
That certainly would explain why he fired her so cruely and smeared her the way he did. I see no other reason for a person to act that way.
i would prefer dpp like, 'cause anette is not tarja. we all know and there's nothing to discuss. seriously anette doesn't sing the old ones like tarja. and some sound incredebly bad. but still not all are. yes, 'we' aren't used to the 'new' sound. but it's not the decission of the fans what the band want and what they don't want.
it is your decission if listen to it or not. and yes they can't perform like this anymore as anette is a different type of singer.

To my astonishment, I first heard this song two months to the day after penning a chapter where one of my featherwing characters lost his wings just as this song describes. That and the context of this video (Tarja's swan song for Nightwish) makes it very hard for me to hear this song without bursting into tears. @vezok716 Tarja likes to dress up for the fans. She went all out for this concert because it was the last one in the tour and they were making a DVD of it. She changed costumes and mic colors several times through the concert.

The last few minutes of this video never fail to get to me - I get goosebumps and tear up every time. But I never watched it fully to the end before, so this is the first I've seen the camera zoom in and stop on 'And this is it'. Nightwish is still a great band, but they're definitely lacking something that once made them an extraordinary band, and that something is Tarja. Anette's not a bad vocalist, but she doesn't have what it takes to make this music extraordinary like it used to be.

I was there with my cousin, my aunt, my friend, and my friend's sister. We have seats somewhere middle in the left side of the hall. My cousin had really hard time when three person around him headbanged like it was last Nightwish concert ever... And next day I read from TV*s textsite that they fired her.

Tarja's naivete relative to everyone else is heartbreaking, especially since I'd seen her burst into tears in v=OYko9mxUJeY The northhillstreet upload of this track was the first time I heard ever her voice, on 2009 August 1.

THIS is the band that people fell in love with, and PART of that band was Tarja. The band calling itself NW today can't perform this or any other song with the same emotion, passion, or raw power. Nor do their songs have the beauty and energy that they used to have back when Tarja sang those same songs.
THAT is why you will ALWAYS hear mention of Tarja on these videos, especially since SHE is the singer here in this video.

THIS video not only captures arguably the best concert NW ever performed, but it demonstrates how great they once were back when Tarja was in the band. They CAN NOT PERFORM like this any more. And that is not an opinion, it is a fact.
That said, it is the band who refuses to let go of the past by keeping their smear letter against Tarja up on their website, and is a huge factor in instigating these "discussions" about the matter here on YouTube.

anyway, i don't believe that tarja and "nightwish" can "play" together anymore. as i see there are two possibilities.
1. tha band did the right thing and tarja make a mistake. why should tarja sing in a band where she was thrown out because she did something wrong and lied then?

Tarja announced she was going to leave anyway, she hadnt rehearsed with them in 9 years and her lover didnt like her being in the band, she didnt want to go US or UK because the venues are small and not enough profit, they do seem like valid reasons to fire her

You're wrong. Tarja didn't say she would leave until Dec of 2004, and she said it privately to the band, saying she'd like to do one more album and one more tour before starting a solo effort. You're full of shit concerning her "lover", who is and was her HUSBAND as of several years. She DID tour the US and UK you dolt, look at the NW past concerts. They toured the US in 2003 and 2004, and the UK many times.

As far as how they recorded their albums, Toumas INSISTED that Tarja develop the vocals on her own without the band, using recorded tapes of the instrumentals to rehearse with. He WANTED her performing as a trained classical vocalist, and felt it more "pure" if she did it that way. He did NOT want her input in the song orchestrations or arrangements.
Then being the nice guy he is, he blames Tarja for what HE basically DEMANDED.

Sorry if you took it personal, but as far as the letter, it's a bunch of bullshit which is EASILY found to be bullshit if you bother doing any research into the facts. You need to read Marcello's response to the NW letter, and listen to the Tarja interview after her dismissal. There are two sides to every story, however, the NW letter is extremely misleading, and can be seen as a dishonest ration of mud slinging designed to hurt Tarja both personally and professionally.

What is PLAINLY obvious is that Tarja has INCREDIBLE passion when she performs, and it is obvious that she has dedicated her life to singing as she does. That is FAR different than how she is portrayed in the letter, and is FAR different than their new singer who sounds like she'd be unable to get a leading part in a high school musical.
The guys in NW apparently wanted a party girl, and didn't care what her voice sounded like...

BTW, did you know that they fired her behind the stage of this concert as soon as they walked off? They handed her a letter and told her to open it the next day, then walked away from her. What a bunch of cowards and asswipes, doing that to a founding member of the band who had just put on an incredbile performance, and still had tears of joy in her eyes.
Not only that, they made sure they aired their dirty laundry in public, publishing their "letter" on the net the next day.

As far as Anette, she was a poor choice for a replacement. It's almost as if Tuomas deep down inside wanted to rub it in Tarja's face that he could replace her with anyone he felt like, even with a person who couldn't sing that well and lacked stage presence, and STILL make a ton of money and be adored by the fans.

His primary motivations appear to be revenge, spite, and egotism, brought upon by the fact she didn't fall for him when he tried to woo her with his lyrics. I'm sure her popularity with the fans had something to do with it as well, where he felt he was being slighted and ignored and she was stealing his glory.
That certainly would explain why he fired her so cruely and smeared her the way he did. I see no other reason for a person to act that way.

There's a difference between HATE and DISLIKE.
It IS obvious that Anette is NOT anywhere CLOSE to being good enough to front a band such as Nightwish, her voice is mediocre at best, horribly annoying for anyone who enjoys great vocals, and offensive to people who used to enjoy Nightwish as it existed up to the End of an Era concert in 2005.
She will NEVER be able to sing this song correctly. She doesn't possess the talent, skill, passion, nor training to pull it off.
