It's both a mind fuck and a revelation. It's both amazing and boring. It's both audacious and ridiculous. Most people won't like it. If you do, you aren't necessarily brilliant or hip. But I will say it's far better than most recent David Lynch films.
dear whalesex, excuse me please, on my improper grammar usage. however,i was speaking more so about the film and how rod didn't give the film the review it deserved. i mean sure it is his opinion , but he didn't really seem as though he understood the film; which in conclusion, if you don't exactly understand a piece of art than you can't really critique it can you? lastly , i do understand grammar "Whalesex", it's just not my number one goal when writting a comment on a youtube video...sorry
If a movie is to hard for the viewer to understand, (this could mean that) the filmmaker has failed in making his point. Of course, a movie can be so complicated that you have to watch it a couple of times, but that doesn't make the film neccesarily better. It is ridiculous to say that you nead to understand a film completely before delivering critique; that would mean that you could only watch a couple of films per year to do so.
The guy on the phone had the review horribly wrong. The movie is not about physical death, it is about psychological death. The movie is a tale of the path of waking up.
An example is the house on fire symbolism. it is from the Lotus Sutra, The Burning House Parable.
This movie is only as dark as one is dim to seeing the truth.
I'll disagree. Eternal Sunshine is as deep and true as anything else Charlie has done. This recent trend to push Eternal Sunshine fans off the Kaufman boat is sort of ridiculous. I thought Synecdoche felt more like Eternal Sunshine than Kaufman's earlier stuff anyway. If you loved Eternal Sunshine there's a pretty good chance you'll like this.
because you're promoting some kind of intellectual barrier between people who like eternal sunshine but not synecdoche and vice versa. like somehow people who like eternal sunshine shouldn't bother with this or could never understand. it's vague, divisive and rude and who cares? bryon nails the sentiment: ridiculous.

this movie does NOT have "flaws." Even if you dislike it, the film does accomplish what it sets out to do.

This is a movie for fans of Charlie Kaufman, not fans of Eternal Sunshine.
