@dnaske 1971 was better! But, for some reason, movies and recordings of it are rare, unfortunately. I think Fleetwood has a CD of the Cabs and other corps from that year's "Dream" contest.
Holly CRAP !!!!!!!!! I was at that SHOW..............And YES a VERY very SKINNY Jimmy Russo..........The HURC'S DM Generro jumped up at the end of a tune and when he come down the 50 yard line flag went where the sun don't show he was a hurtin.....
The Caballeros were awesome, saw them many times in Union City Roosevelt Stadium,,, I have always admired the Junior and Senior Corps for entertaining me, Thank you to all Corps
it would take 3 horn lines of today's DCI corps to reach the same goose-bump audio output from a volume persepctive of this half-in-the-bag, overweight, self-trained horn line. Ah, the good ole days when you heard the drums from half a mile away, today I can barely hear them if I am on the 25 yard line
WarriorSage2.--How many years were you with 76'. For a decade during the 60's, I was a member (snare line) of the Maumee Demons Sr Corps. We competed against the Kenosha Kingsmen, Boys of 76', Hams Indians, Spirit of St. Louis and many others. The Demons were the midwestern Sr champions from 1964 through 1968. We were likely the 1st Corps in the country to carry 5 snares and the drumline was exceptional. Good Times and lots of hard work and memories. Toledo Ohio
@EarDoc40 Played with the Boys in '70 and '72. Big Daddy [ Dave Richards] was our Drum Major. Early sixties I played with the Milwaukee Elks Youth Band [ French Horn], from '65-'69 USMC, after '72 returned to San Diego and became director of " EarthQuake" DrumCorps in late '90's
@WarriorSage2 .Thanks for the reply.--My last year in Drum Corps was 1968. I rember when 76's concert tune was "Intermission Riff" and old Stan Kenton favorite. I am sorry so say that I am not familar with "Earthquake". The Maumee Glassmen were just a Corps called the Maumee Sons in the mid 60's. They are now usually in the top 10 DCI finals each year. The Maumee Demons folded in 1970 and became defunct. I continued on playing professionally until about 10 years ago. Thanks
@EarDoc40 " EarthQuake " was a Division lll DCI Corps that competed in Calif. for 2 1/2 years and folded in 1998. Our first year on the field we beat Mandarin in Top Brass/Percussion. Yaaa. Glassmen came to one of our shows. Awesome horn line.
Thanks for posting this. This was the corps that gave me the bug back in 1980. I remember a friend of my Dad loaned me a vinyl LP of this corps titled "The Hawthorne Caballeros" This corps inspired an entire generation of drum corps fanatics! Thanks so much.
Had the pleasure of watching and competing against these guys in '72 as a member of " The Boys of '76" from Racine, Wisc. If I remember they fielded 65+ horns. DCI can out march DCA but still can't out blow the horn lines. We need more Drum Corps for our youth of today.
The golden age indeed of drum corps. oveerall execution today may indeed be better in DCI - not DCA - but the power, fun and pure in your face entertainment is without comparison where some whows today requrie a good dose of nodoze to get through a show.
I love the old M&M in those days-looked like little battles going on with toy soldiers.... great stuff!

Well-said, brocklin000. Compare this with Garfield's lame and pathetic living room interview in 2008.
