There is a hole in the side of the tube, 1/4" on this one. The green bottle is slid onto the tube so that it makes a cup to hold water, and is positioned over the 1/4" hole. If you were to hold the tube and pour water into the green bottle, the water would run out the 1/4" hole. The white bottle is the air chamber and is placed down over top of the green one, the bottom of the tube is sticking out past both bottles. The air pushes out the water until it hits the hole, then it burps!

@nickjin00 I forgot to reply on your post, but i did on the video thread. All these pumps are similar. When the pumped air hits the opening, it escapes and draws water up the column. When it escapes, it also allows the atmospheric pressure to force water into the bottom of the column. If your column is sitting on a sandy bottom, it will draw sand up and out!
I attached it to the top of the red building in the video, it is about 14 feet. I didn't try any higher with this small setup. I made many more pumps, using small air compressors, blowers and valves. You can really shoot some water with a very small shop vac and 3/4" pipe! I also put a similar setup down my old well about 27 feet, that's where the old hand pump is stuck. It almost came out the top, I could see it bubbling a few feet down the pipe.

how high have you gotten it to lift the water? I have gotten 16ft from the same type of arrangement
