The Sierra Club was originally set up to combat hydroelectric dams. Originally this was for aesthetic reasons, but they received a big boost when Big Oil decided they wanted to market natural gas (which until then was a dangerous waste product) as a fuel for electricity generation. For this, they obviously needed to nobble the competition.
They are still doing Big Oil's bidding today, by opposing nuclear power in favour of wind and solar which need natural gas backup.

Enviromental Terrorist planted bombs on the oil rig to make the recent decision to drill off the coast of VA look like a bad idea. They would destroy 100 miles of beaches in LA, MS just to make a point. The means justify the ends with them. How funny is it that the oil rig disaster just happen to happen right after the decision to drill off the coast of VA.
