On modern locomotives there is a button the engineer or the coductor have to press every 15 seconds if there is no movement of the controls. It is like a deadman switch. If the button is not pressed it puts the train into emergency and stops the train.

They used freight car trucks connected by oversized bicycle chain directly to the motor. Actual traction motors and actual Blombergs were deemed too expensive for this locomotive, so do you really think they would include something as frivolous as a safety feature?

Is it from the stoneage? Modern trains will stop if there's no one operating the train. The traindriver has to activly keep a button or pedal down for it to work ("dead man's hand"). Modern trains also requires the driver to logon before the controls will become useable.
