  • Why not have UP pay for it they are kicking them out so they should pay.

  • UPDATE May 2011: With the help of your donations, ORHF has raised $3.3 million of the $4.7 million needed to start construction of the new facility! ORHF would like to start construction in July to meet the 2012 deadline before the engines are kicked out. But they still have $1.4 million to raise. They're getting very close and need donations now more than ever. Donate online or buy tickets for the upcoming 70th Anniversary trips. Thank you, and remember, we can't do this without you.

  • yeah i read on some website that in the future the will try and build a railroad museum and place all of ORHF's locomotives to be put on display, in other words they would retire 4449 along with the othe other ORHF historical locomotives, i got sad when i read that.

  • @Barricade360 That is only partly true. Yes, the new facility (in the future) will be a railroad museum where people can view the engines up close when they're not running. But the engines will still be operational and will still continue to do excursions.

  • I don't understand why UP wants 4449 out of there property when they themselves have a steam program and 4449 has run with them in double head excursions. I find it hypocritical of the UP to kick those people out of there because just like the UP steam program the SP steam program is trying to preserve history. All this is causing is lots of gray hairs and anxiety for those hardworking volunteers. I hope the 4449 and its crew the best!

  • @Bassfanatic94 Steam creates gray hairs and anxieaty for any group maintaining and operating them. Its an art all on its own, and im proud to be a part of it! Im not with 4449, but I know what it takes to get it on the road.

  • @Bassfanatic94 UP is just trying to expand their yard to allow more trains to roll in and out of Portland. Therefore, unfortunatly, the Brooklyn Roundhouse has to go. But it's not like the UP is just kicking them out without help. The doubleheader run was also partly a fundraiser for the new facility being built. The UP also helped out at this year's Holiday Express fundraiser. So UP is not the bad guy; they play a vital roll in getting the new facility built.

  • If for some reason the plans are delayed, I'm sure all the museums across the US would volunteer to help these engines, from the California Railroad Museum to Steamtown, Stausburg, and I'm sure even the B&O Railroad Museum would volunteer to help these engines.

  • If I were ever to win the lottery there would be 3 places my money would go, A nice house, a nice car, and a big chunk to the 4449 and the 700, those guys work so hard and put their blood sweat and tears into that beautiful steam engine week in and week out so we can all enjoy it, they really deserve to have a new home for their great engines

  • sorry it was at the end!

  • what is the name of the website i would love to help ^_^

  • @JD41796 orhf.org and 4449.com

  • For those of you who don't know, a new restoration facility is in the works for the locomotives. It's said to become a reality in the next few years or so. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the cause. It couldn't have been done without your help. However, donations are still as important as ever to keep the engines running. So I encourage those of you who haven't donated to do so. Steam locomotives are probably the best examples of living history we have. Let's keep them alive!

  • Well said I will donate a little bit more

  • @pdxsteam good for you guys

i live about 15 minutes away, and i feel bad for whats going on, i am honestly scared for the 'ol gals in the roundhouse, but now that we know that these Locomotives will have a new home

  • @pdxsteam I thought the UP only gave the OHRF a few months to move out?

  • @Jared1452 As far as I know, the UP gave them until 2012 to vacate the roundhouse. This works out perfectly since the majority of the new facility should be completed by that time. I think they understand that it would be impossible and unfair to kick them out before hand.

  • Anyone know the name of this song

  • Great to get a home for SP4449. I will Donate

  • OH YES, HIP HIP HRAY, The views are over 1,000!!!! =D XD

  • Why doesn't the ORHF come out to strasburg PA, I'd bet they'd be happy to have the ORHF around and I'd get to see 4449 in person!

  • The 4449 is a beautiful part of our history. I wish I could give my tax payment to it instead of bailing out the banks and lining their executives pockets!

  • I really do hope the p 4449 gets to keep running the rails!! Long Live the sp 4449!

  • HELP THE HOMELESS

  • My bad

  • 1225dude, you're abously right, the ORHS locomotives should transfer to BNSF trackage.

  • ORHF

  • Move to BNSF terrority. They aren't dicks like UP. And theres tons of cheap land around BNSF's clyde yard.

  • WHOAH, the views are 730 now!!!! XD

  • HRAY, 650 views!!!! =D

  • damnit why do they have to sell the shop the 4449 is and will always be aloud into califrona always

  • 2:17 thru 2:33 are the most heartbreaking words a railfan can ever hear about that engine

  • More and more I think the people of Portland are realizing just how amazingly lucky we are to have machines like this in our beautiful city. People also need to be aware of just how fragile the balance really is. Milwaukee Road 261 was just returned to static display with essentially no warning and without a new home, SP 4449, SP&S 700 and OR&N 197 could be right back at Oaks Park, exposed to the elements and vandalism. Education of the public on these matters is crucial for future preservation.

  • Wish they could use the Sacramento Shops. They r going to be an operational museum. The 4449 does belong in CA...and will always be its home.

  • One of the best videos on youtube.

  • Thanks for uploading man, I asked Cyrus 3 times about uploading it but he never replyed to me, thanks again.

Now the public will know and help.

  • I'm so exited they finally bought the property next to OMSI!!!! Best Wishes ORHF I can't wait to see your new home.

  • I wonder what their new building will look like?

  • I love the part where Doyle says "Then you've got a 400 Ton Locomotive you can't take home and park in your garadge", LOL!!!!

    I like Doyle, he's goofy.

If there's anything else Iike about these guys besides trains, is their all goofy, I wish I can be like them.

  • What's going on with Train Artisan these days? I thought they were coming out with a new train simulation game of their own with trains like Pennsylvania K4s, Union Pacific E9s, and other cool trains.

  • I think ORHF officially bought the land near OMSI as of June 5th. Now they are trying to raise enough money for the actual restoration facility.

  • Hey pdxsteam, do you think you could upload the other previews.

  • I'm gonna miss the Brooklin Roundhouse, its a nice building.

I got to visit it 3 times and my second visit was when she was Red White & Blue!!!!

  • nice! i was in there only once back in 2000 and she was still in her black paint from the bnsf trip.

  • Yes, but what I don't get is we didn't get in trouble with Union Pacific. Cause the 4449 web site says UP dosen't alow the public back there and yet we were able to come in.

I think it was because I was a kid back then.

  • I'd like to know how many companies have donated to the ORHF, and which ones.

  • Thomas, cut the negativity! The UP has been very generous in letting SP 4449 stay at Brooklyn virtually rent-free for many years. The time has come for 4449 and the rest of the gang to get a home of its own, and the UP has been instrumental in the process of acquiring land for a future home. The UP has the power to kick the locomotives out in 30 days, but has agreed to let us stay until 2012, giving us enough time to work on building a new home and moving there. Thank you Union Pacific!

  • Well I bet BNSF is more generous to you then UP is, cause BNSF lets 4449 run on their tracks, UP dosen't. That's why I don't like UP (Well atleast not as much as I used to) lets leave it at that.

  • If the Union Pacific didn't let 4449 run on its tracks, the 4449 would've not been able to operate the Holiday Express or even go on the trip to Michigan. The Union Pacific has gone lengths to ensure that we are able to run the 4449 in and out of Brooklyn Yard and to Union Station. The crew is grateful for that. I don't really appreciate you dissing the UP when you don't know all the facts.

  • Ok, but that's just between Brooklyn to Union Station, I'm talking about an excursion.

I was talking to John Teshara, 2472's fireman and he said UP would rather run all the way from Cheyenne and do a few legs, instead of leting a nearby engine run in the area.

  • The UP let SP 4449 lead the UP 844 on a company business train in 2007, that says a lot!

  • But that's because it was on the BNSF line, not the UP line.

  • I just don't under stand why UP dosen't allow forein steam on their rails?

  • It's a company image thing. If they let a steam loco that said Southern Pacific run on their rails, the average person would think that it was the southern Pacific Railroad. Where as if the only steam locos they run say Union Pacific, people know that it's the Union Pacific. You would be AMAZED the number f people I meet daily that think trains are all still coal fired steam locomotives.

  • Long Live SP!!!!

  • Union Pacific has every good reason too. And NO Union Pacific doesn't hate then steam program, its just becoming a hassle to deal with the SP 4449 and then 2 Steam locomotives of their own. The SP 4449 running over Union Pacific rails and being in that building rent free is costing them a fortune. They could have kicked the SP 4449 out in 30 days, but they are kind enough to let them stay until 2012. Be Happy, not angry

  • Hate mail to UP is far from a good idea. That will only make then tighten their grip. trust me.

  • Hope their new home gets built soon, I really want to see what it will look like.

OK, this is why I say Union Pacific is a big bully, kicking them out and not leting them run on the ex SP tracks.

EVERYONE SEND HATE MAIL TO UNION PACIFIC!!!!

  • Dude there is a reason UP is kicking them out. UP can't keep the 4449 there forever, like they say in the video the round house is in a big state of disrepair, and at this point it would be cheaper to tear down the round house than to keep making constant repairs. Who knows maybe UP will find anther home for the 4449!

  • 5 Stars! Save the 4449!

    When it's gone....it's GONE!

  • Dang nice vid. I shot video of the Daylight at 11 different locations across the state of Michigan in July of 2009, vids are on my youtube account.
