Billy Mize owned the Foot Hill Club in Long Beach in the 60's and he may still own it. Being from Texas and living in Ca. we were at home dancing at the his place..
I grew up in Bakersfield listenin to "cousin Herb tv".first paying gig was 1959 Pumpkin Center Barn - we played rock&roll & Jelly Sanders&band played country. I couldn't wait to get out of Bakersfld to L.A. &play R&R..Now many years & gigs later I realize the influence they had on me..Joe Maphis, Billy Mize, Roy Nichols, (Merle Haggard) Don Rich (Buck Owens) -I did a recording session in Toronto 1970 & the engineer knew I was from Bakersfield just by the way I played guitar...thanks for posting
I grew up in Taft. Used to watch Cousin Herb, then Jimmy Thomason almost every day after school. When I moved to L.A. in 1969, people used to say I had an accent when I talked. I didn't realize then the greatness I was witnessing every afternoon.
I remember this song well. It was dedicated to little Byron Byrnes, who stayed up past his bedtime just to hear it. You see--I'm Byron Byrnes...I stayed up past my bedtime, just to hear them sing this song, back in 1959--but our old Motorola TV went on the fritz that night, and I didn't get to see it.

Until NOW, that is--49 years later!
:)
Just kidding...good song, love the guitar, though.
Like, wonderful Town Hall Party "kinnie" of an excellent performance. Cheers!
