Everyone misunderstands this play. Patrick manelly the bears longsnapper saw the packers had 12 men on the field and he snappedit on his own to wolfe to try to get the penalty. however the 12th packer ran off the field just in time so it just looks like a bad playcall. you can pretty much tell that wolfe was not expecting the ball and just had to improv. Granted it was a dumb decision by manelly but this was not the decision of Mike martz nor Lovie Smith. As a bears fan i needed to clarify.

I remember this play, it was all on Pat Mannelly. He saw someone running off the field late and in that situation the center is told to do a quick snap to the up back to draw a penalty. If you look at Wolfe's reaction, he wasn't expecting it.

@BURRhypopo What do you need an explanation for? The team in the white clothes had their last down, meaning the last play before it's the opponents turn. To prevent that from happening they need to get to the orange line, which was 11 yards away. Usually in that situation you punt kick the ball so the opponents have to start very deep in their own field. On this play the team decided to only fake a punt and try to run the 11 yards and get another (first) down.

@101Mons you count the punt from where the line of scrimmage is. so it will normally be an extra 15 yards ish back to prevent it from being blocked. not saying give up, but you're gonna have to kick it a lot further than that.
