I've done the same drilling thing to some of my Agops and their sound turns short, softer and china -like (normal shape crashes). The small holes work well in china cymbals because of their more rigid construction. No use to compare with f ex Ozone crash. That's whole different ball game.

Good idea but you Fucked Up... Holes are too small and too many...The theory is to break up standing waves and cancel out nasty low register harmonics.

There is a mathematical equation involved to do with 'Size of hole and its placement... (usually 1/3 from edge of bell, to edge of cymbal) The other part of the equation is dependent on diameter of cymbal.

But at leased you gave it a go... Next time do some research on standing waves.. Hopefully the cymbals you fucked up were crappy anyway.

If your in a beginners kit don't worry man, their will come a day where you'll have a really expensive kit and your abilities on playing them will also be the same, that's if your playing isn't in advanced level yet, you might be in an advanced level in playing the drums and you might not know it, that happened to me years ago until i decided to record myself, you'll be amazed of how you play one's you record yourself. just keep drumming, you never know what good or great things might come to u.

Who knows why Sabian chose even smaller hole in their so called 'Holy China' cymbals... Maybe they're just jumping on a popular trendy notion, that you can improve the sound of any crappy cymbal simply by cutting holes in it (funny name 'Holy China')... In any event, a well made cymbal should have tuneful harmonic overtones, then no band aids are required

They all sounded different, but I wasn't happy with any of them... A friend suggested I check out a local Chinese importer. He had a huge shop selling everything from firecrackers to Chinese herbal medicine and including genuine made in China china-cymbals, so I brought a 24" one, it sounds great

@nsudrumshard Aha! But he's not the only one that does it! I've seen many people do it, including myself. Like him, I put one on my ride every so often to decrease the ring of it. Gives it more of a "Dry Ride" effect. Though I guess I could just use my dry ride for that, haha. Point is it's great for jazz, or if you think the resonance is just too crazy long for what you're playing. You can change how much it effects it by how close it is to the edge, too.
