I have a 2002 chevy silverado, the lower ball joints are seal like hell(no screws) does any body have any idea how to get them out?.....hope somebody knows what i mean, thanks for reading
@amzy76 Lower ball joints in a 2002 chevy truck are pressed in the lower control arm from the factory as all are, however, no rivets or snap rings retain the ball joint. The factory uses a press to stake the upper lip of the ball joint in the control arm in four spots on the upper lip. Take a drift and a hammer and knock these for areas inward towards the center of the ball joint. Use a small file to make sure the lip is nice and round and take a hammer and knock it out. No press needed.
Without a sequence number in the video name, it is very difficult to find the proper video sequence. The sequence number at the end of the video name is not good either, place the number early in the title as I have done on my uploads at my "lwgraves" channel. Very good videos.
ok expertvillage not every single full size trucks ball joints are like this. Hell it can change from year to year with the same model truck. You need to be specific and say what year and model of truck you are working on. You are going to have people thinking they can tackle this job and their truck is totally different, then they screw something up.
Any easy tips on removing the factory rivets holding on to the upper and lower ball joints? Been at this for about an hour with heat a hammer and lots of blood.
I have a 92 Dodge B-350. My question does it have A snap ring. Only Experianced mechanics answer, please. Thanks. I know my upper joints Screw out. And i bought the press but It does not have enough space to set up. is there larger kits. thanks.
Holy Christ. The hell with pressing it out, just beat the lips off the thing. A few good hits with a good size hammer and she'll pop right out. Make sure you use the press to put the new one in. Never the less, a great video all the same.
Thanks Nate, I saved about $650.00 in labor doing my upper and lower ball joints myself from watching your videos. I changed them on a 1998 dodge ram. Thanks
one set of ball joints for the life of your vehicle? not if you own a ford or a dodge.
