That 5.0 4x4 Explorer must be a real badass in that small truck. Id love one out of an Explorer to replace my 4.0 in my 02 Ranger. I dont think it would be worth the money because with the cold air intake it took my Ranger from 245 horsepower to 270 horsepower. Ive got flowmaster 40s but they sound boss as hell on this 5.0!
@Fx4Ranger2002 Shit 245 is good for a 4.0. I be luck if mine hit 175 if I dynod my SOHC Explorer. Cold airs help, but I really dont think it boosted you 25hp.. A bigger intake( cold air, MAF, tube) and a good tuning I can see that much increase. Im wanting to replace me 4.0 tho, honestly its the biggest POS Ive dealt with. Been on the high and low for a 5.0 myself.
@KC90MC3 What year is your explorer? The 3.0s, 4.0s, and 2.3s were beefed up on 2001 when ford remodeled the ranger front and introduced the edge model. The 4.0 went from 160hp to 245 stock, the 3.0 was given 200ish horsepower and the 2.3 was given 143 horsepower but gets good gas miledge
@Fx4Ranger2002 Nice! Mines the 99 4.0L SOHC. Rated at 210hp I think, but I doubt I can see that now. I just dont like the SOHCs. I did my timing chains once already and the guides broke again. My 5r55e is on the shits too, I have no OD. I want a 5.0, more power, better built powertrain, and not much of a mileage change( might even be better mileage because of my stereo weight.)
I have a 97 5.0 v8 Awd Mercury mountineer which is basically the same this as an explorer, i haven't been able to get mine stuck either. These are pretty hard vehicles to get stuck. But my suspension is stock, i am trying to get it picked up three inches but i've yet to find out where to get some Torsion Keys.
yeah, 4x4 explorers are pretty hard to get stuck... I've floored one into mud so deep as soon as you step into it your boot's bout half a foot under, and I easily got the car out... my boot wasn't so lucky O_o
Wish my Explorer had a V8. And 4x4 too. That would be sick. Mine is a '97 XLT with the 4.0 V6 but I've put 40k miles on it with no problem doing everything from boat hauling to 300+ mile road trips.
