Both good. Kipping is what this WOD calls for it can also be done using strict pull ups. We use both in our gym. I feel it is best to practice, train and get better at both.
To answer your question about which works more muscles - Kipping and strict pull ups work the same muscles (for the most part) . Kipping requires more flexibility. If you are looking to exhaust your muscles completely try this: strict pull ups to failure immediately followed by kipping pull ups to failure.
i've always wondered is kipping any better than deadhangs? ya you can obv do more reps but does it work out any more muscles than deadhang pullups? it seems stupid if it's just a rep thing
@91hockeyfit...Benching with "good form" will only increase your upper body strength, make you kickass at sports like football and hockey, but aside from that how is the Bench not included in Crossfit. It's one of the big 3: Deadlift, Squat, and Bench Press.

The point is to move as much weight in the quickest time possable. Work smart not hard. Do all the dead hang pullups you want when your hang on for dear life and fail he will still be working at max output, smoking your strenght increase as well as calorie and fat burn....No merit? Think again gym rat.
