What's that white collar on the mushroom cloud? I've seen it some other test videos, but not all of them. Funny enough, some mushrooms actually have that thing too. It's the remains of the cover that's under the cap that's most likely meant to protect the spores underneath the cap, and it just peels off and looks like that later when the mushroom grows.

@DoomDodgers they're called 'bells' or 'skirts', and they are caused by detonation on high humidity, high pressure days. Essentially its a difference in pressure and temperature at the updraft of the stem, leading to a cloud being formed in the shape you see. For a more complex explanation, look up 'mushroom cloud' on wikipedia, the sources are well referenced and the explanation is correct.

Wikipedia says Joe 4, was detonated in 1953 with a yield equivalent to 400 kilotons of TNT. The U.S. tested the "Ivy Mike" bomb in November 1952 with a yield of 10.4 megatons.
