  • Great video! I have 2 shibas and an Alaskan malamute. I'm contemplating getting a basenji in the future. Currently I'm reading all about them. They seem very similar to shibas.

  • im sorry, which ones the shiba, and which ones the basenji?

  • I just recently uploaded a video of my basenji and shiba-inu. You should check it out.

  • I also have a male basenji and female shiba-inu. I rescued them almost a year ago. I adore them so much. My basenji has taken over my lawn chair as well. And the shiba is definetly in charge!!

    Loved your slideshow!!

  • I love them too! That's so awesome that you also have a male basenji and a female shiba inu- its such a rare thing for people to have both.

  • Beautiful dogs! I have a female Shiba and she is so sweet...Very well behaved and quiet. Enjoyed this!

  • Me and my parents had a red basenji her name was Aarow very cute and lovable dog she died last year and someday i hope to get another one maybe a brindle:>

  • I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss. I pray that you get strength when you need it. God speed.

  • Curly tailed dogs are so adorable! I love them both, especially the basenji. She's beautiful! Paige, does your dog have a curly tail? I'm sure your dog does as he's the product of two curly tailed breeds.

ITB, are the dogs both female? I read that Shibas are small Akitas, but I've always thought they were just beautiful Japanese dogs that were much more appealing than Akitas, who have rather odd looking heads.

  • The basenji is a male and the Shiba is a female. Shiba Inu's are part of the same family as the Akita but are a breed separate from the Akita.

  • We have a tricolor Shiba-inu/Basenji mix named Dwight. I love that you have one of each!

  • How interesting! What kind of sound does it make? What does its tail look like and whats the furr like? Haha you can tell Im a Shiba/ Basenji fanatic.

  • Well he can bark but rarely does. And when he does choose to, he'll only do it once or twice. But he does yodel a lot. His coat is somewhere between a Shiba and Basenji - puffier than a Basenji but sleeker than a Shiba. And he's got the Shiba "butt wings" but they aren't quite as pronounced. His tail is curly but not the tight corkscrew of a Basenji. It does relax a bit when he's asleep.

  • He's also a big fan of the heat. In the summer he'll spend an entire day laying in the sun, then coming inside panting for a drink of water, then going back outside. He gets cold easily but not in the fragile, shivery way of a smaller dog. He would just prefer to be under the covers. Also, when it's raining, he'll wait until he positively can't hold it anymore to go outside to pee. He's quite the character...

  • I love how Basenjis sleep! Shiba Inus are so adorable! I want one of each. Do they get along really well?

  • Ya but the Shiba is definately in charge!
