well evander always head butted because he was always a fighter who went head first into fluries and melees..not always to his benifit..he was a scrapper inside. He fought this way too close distance fast since almost ever heavy weight fight he was in he was the smaller guy, height and weight wise. He was a blown up cruiser weight..he couldnt fight from the outside as a heavy weight or he would be in trouble.
I agree, it's funny how everybody keep saying that Holyfield was a dirty headbutter because Tyson said so once, when the only clear intentional headbutt in their fights was a Tyson one (when he almost cried right after it...)
I never said that you were damning him for it and anyone can have their opinions about it. I for one have never seen Holyfield intentionally headbutt anyone (including Tyson). Every single fight that I've seen him in, and I've seen almost every one of Evanders fights with the exception of some of his more recent ones and the one you're talking about, and if a headbutt occurs you can make a legit argument that it was accidental. Thats why the ref never took any points from him.
@TheArkham13asylum Right, and I never said that he didn't headbutt anyone. All I'm saying is that in all of the fights that I've seen Evander in, which is almost all of his fights, I've never seen him once INTENTIONALLY headbutt anyone and that's including his fights with Tyson. Every fight that I've seen him fight in which a headbutt was involved, you can make a strong argument that it was accidental. Hell, half of the time its his opponent that's doing the butting.
@elheadkickio They were accidental tho, anyone can see that. They were slugging away and when that happens, headbutts can happen. It happened in the Tyson fights too because they were both slugging it out. Nobody ever used to bitch about the headbutts BEFORE he fought Tyson. All of the Tyson fanboys say its Holyfield's fault when now even Tyson himself says that it was just as much his fault that they happened.
@xBMF9000x Dude, you can't deny that Holy loves to headbutt. It's not a few isolated incidents. It's every damn fight. I remember one match where he was on the ropes and flung forward with the most blatant head first foul attempt, it was almost cartoonish in how exaggerated the motion was.
@pearcemark2 Which fight was this? I want to see this "blatant head first foul" that you're talking about. So Holyfield was known for headbutting, big deal. He's never in ANY of his fights had a point deducted for headbutts because the ref can clearly see that they are accidental. He's a brawler and when he gets to slugging headbutts can happen. No fighter is perfect, Holy was known for headbutts, Tyson for forearming, Bowe for rabit punching, Golata for low blows...the list goes on and on.
@xBMF9000x I'm not damning him for it, but you seem to deny that there's any purpose behind it. He clearly understands that he does it and continues to, so it's not this incidental thing. When he started to lose a step, he liked to even things out by using that extra tool.
I wish I could remember the fight myself, I'll come across it again eventually. Spent the last 3 days watching from his pro debut up to Bowe 2, and I'll continue playing out the rest. So I'll tell you then.
@xBMF9000x Might as well be known for biting aswell, just an accidental nip off the ear, a bit off the nose... accidental my arse - he uses it as a tactic and what can be equated to ball tampering in cricket - he is using a shortcut. Accidents only happen once or twice, not in every single fight. In addition, Tyson, Bowe etc were called for their illegal moves, why wasn't Holyfield? Because he disguises it as an accident.
@asrarulhaq2002 Well, you're entitled to your opinion as i am to mine. Honestly, I lost interest in this conversation about 5 months ago. So call it the way you want, tho in all honesty, I don't believe that Holyfield was a dirty fighter, especially when you look around boxing and find guys like Andrew Golata. If Holyfield was a dirty fighter, it was WAY mild compared to that shit. But like I said, I honestly don't give a damn about anyone else's opinions anymore.
@onlyjoetee In their first fight Bowe won not only by out boxing Holyfield but also by getting him in slugfests he just couldn't handle. I think he figured he could do the same in this fight. If only he stuck to his great jab he would have had a longer boxing career and not into an early retirement.
when i sed "to prove a point" u shud of striaghtt away thought macho machismo. evander went up in weight to fight the heavyweight. why should the heavyweight box wen the lighter fighter wants a fight.
i wudnt back down. do u know why i wouldnt back down? because i wud need to prove a point.
there come a stage in a mans life where hes got to prove a point. To the world it may seem "dumb" but to him it means everything.

@xBMF9000x what most of these boxing trolls see as headbutts is simply holyfield tucking his chin in when getting close to a punch

Never takes long for Evander to bring out those headbutts.
