When swimers are choosen by region it happens exactly this. The 10th swimmer in thje USA or France is much better than Moussambani, however why is not at the games? Because swimmers are choosen by region! Wrong method of choice!
Would be great to see him again in 2012! Wikipedia tells me that his best time now is 57 seconds, which is almost 1 minute faster than in this heat. Come on Eric, don't let me down! :)
He swims faster than I do!! And with better technique too! He can always say he won one of the heats at the Sydney Olympics 100m, just like Ian Thorpe!
@baldeagle1195 im sorry but i heard he did get better and went under a minute its just it was sad to see this in the olympics and it looks like he was drowning and ppl were just clapping :(
@Ounouh - They were there cheering the Olympic spirit he showed. The first competitor for his country in the event, the pride he showed, the grace and dignity he showed. Even though he knew he wasn't in the running to win he was graceful and busted every vein trying his hardest. I know this as I was there at Homebush that day - everyone loved him and cheered him and they were talking about him throughout the Olympic venue . Be slower to assume the worst - these were genuine cheers
@ronan32 did you see cullen jones at the 2008 4x100 relay team?!?! -__- yea black people DEFINITELY CANNOT SWIM!!! shows how much you're up to date dickwad!!
@NYCeddie15 look up a generalization? that's cute. Tell me how it's true? please. or tell me how to look up that black people can't swim. cuz im black..and im pretty sure that i can swim. And im pretty sure i swam better than the vast majority of people i know, both black and white. but hey i cant swim though...right? lolz
@pixiedust7659 true but this guy wasn't even an underdog. Underdog's actually have a chance of winning, this guy didn't. We cheered for the sheer fact he was havin a go, doing his best. More power to the man.
To preface this video, this guy became the only swimmer in an early qualifier because everybody else jumped the gun and got disqualified. So that explains most of it
don't forget to mention, that before he came to the olympics he had never even seen a 50 meter pool. he started swimming only 8 months prior and was training in a hotel pool. he made it to the olympics by drawing a wildcard to encourage developing countries. i think this guy embodies the spirit of the olympics and sports.
