Kurlovich snatch of 215 looked much better and he was good for 217.5. I don't recognize this awkward lift as the world record and I consider Kurlovich record of 215 is the world record
@stepanianov Nope, we are not particularly genetically gifted with strength. There was a system to select the best genetically gifted kids and there was this one extraordinary man...
@stepanianov Hello, thanks for your answer. but i don't understand one thing about the food of chine people, can you tell me more about that, eat chine people not good(organic) ?
Antonio was my weightlifting coach for a few years. He's one of the coolest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. And he made my lifting 20x better than what it would have been, good friend and a good coach
Best snatchers: 1.) Krastev 216 kg (1987) 2.) Kurlovich 215 kg (1989) 3.) Rezazadeh 213 kg (2003) 4.) Gunyashev 212,5 kg (1988) 5.) Chigichev 211 kg (2005)
This guy use to party like a madman... they all did, they also smoked like crazy - I went to the Worlds in Vancouver and there were more lifters and coaches outside smoking than there were people in the lifting hall !
I saw Krastev lift in a small meet in Sarnia, Ontario years after - a shadow of his former self but still fast for a big man... he was in the country training to be on the WWF circuit which never happened.
Wasn't Mark Henry's best clean & jerk that same 216? And the wrestling promoters insist on calling Henry the world's strongest man. Also Varbanov jerked 1.1 pound less than Henry while weighing 242 pounds less.
To be fair Henry benched over 550lbs at age 18 and eventually pulled 940lbs in the deadlift but yeah his best C&J wasn't much more than 450 and he just plain was not competitive in O-lifting. Accomplished Powerlifters have not been able to transition into o-lifters in general Shane Hamman is the best so far. Former weightlifters have set world records in powerliftiing and won major contests but again to be fair burn out faster (in o-lifting). PL's have put up WR's at 49 and 50 years old
Yes the earlier lifters were cheated---because the new ones couldn't beat them. However, I still think the newer ones have used banned substances. Nevertheless not all show it on testing. There is room to assume some are clean.
I'd be infinitely amazed if I could lift 215 kilos off the floor, never mind zip it overhead in one shot. My hat is off to Krastev and all the great lifters from ANY country. And that goes for the ladies too.
that wasn't in training, it was in some Iranian competition. ill bet he could do more than that in training, and if you look at rezazadehs lifts you can see he looks like he is doing it with less effort. i personally think rezazadeh is or was the best lifter of all time.
The weight classes have been reduced from 10 to 8 thus nullifying the old world records which means suleymanoglu's 190 @ 60 is gone and taranenko's 266.
When the weight classes were realigned (due to doping allegations in the late 80's), the IWF retired all previous records and started fresh in the new weight classes.
The reason the men from Eastern Europe are so powerful when they step on the platform is because they ditched the mindset of "You have to let muscles recover" I'm using a strength training regime from Bulgaria and I have huge number gains.
Yes, I think most lifters lift like that, they lift like crazy for couple of weeks and then when they take a little brake they come back a lot stronger. And that of course also very common in almost every squatting or benching progaram, to achieve that overtrained state, that is when your body must adapt.
I read in the weightlifting encyclopedia that he snatched 222.5kg and clean and jerked 265 in training, pity it wasn't in competition because i would have loved to have seen those lifts.
Another Russian or someone from around that area?! Another powerful lifter from the Eastern European countries, or was he from the Soviet Union. They are really keeping the tradition on having strong weightlifters. Great lift!!!
Krastev`s 216 is alltime acknowledged world record of the "old list". Contrary to Tsypko he did it in international competition. Krastev narrowly missed ca. 225 with straps in training and 220 w/o in competition...
Another example of the shameful deed the IWF did when they deleted the old and REAL world records
