  • i thought the VR6 head was a flat head O_o

  • @accountname098 your thinking of the 12valve version

  • @Monthagny oh...well i have a 98 GLX so..... yay 12v!

  • @accountname098 congratulations.

  • I didn't know the Eurovan was 24v! epic!

  • i have a question , if you resurface it , does the compression ratio increase ?

  • @Cojoness The compression ratio would increase maybe 1/10th of a point, if even that much.

  • oh man, you have it easy. when i take keepers out i rig up a c clamp and a bunch of open end 1'' wrenches, its a hastle lol.

  • Thanks for all the excellent videos.

Do you do much with VR6 bottom ends? Would love to see some videos :)

  • ma questo è semplicemente l'ABC della rettifica!

  • Very nice video!

    Big VW owners here!

Looks like you have nice equipment.

    Very professional!

I will keep you in mind if I ever need this service. --Nice to know of you :)

    Thx!!

  • Personaly if and when I skim any heads.I always remove all the valves. Skim the head. Then give the port/valve mouths a 3 face cut and 3 face the valves and lap them in..

  • nice work!!

    by the way...itsVolkswagEn, not VolkswagOn!

  • Haha I know, I get that wrong all the time, too. Same with charactor and character -- I keep messed up the O and E. *slaps forehead*

  • i think the W12 in the bentley is based of this engine. they are really thinking outside the box at VDub.

  • Yr right. the VW Phaeton and Bentley W12's are two VR6 engines Cast end to end as such. ; ) Great Vid John!

  • funny setup on the head

  • I don't understand why resurfacing, that would make the valves come out even more? sorry if my question doesn't make any since, but bare with me. Iam a newbie ;)

  • Stop, listen carefully and think before you type you'll learn a lot more. If you go back you will here him say that it needs machining because it is warped.

Probably because some nutsac let it overheat.

    Regards

  • Don't Be A Dick!!!!

He said he was a newbie.Try this at home....GO ahead and take say.....030" to clean up,then a Hoosier like yourself thinks,"Hey,I'll even run a thinner head gasket to get more power",then have nice new "skyights" in the top of your pistons!!

John,I have to ask this. Why not turn off some of the unshrouded O.D. of the valve just to make sure the penetration into the cylinder is the same as it was,if not improved?

  • also having less space for the piston to travel in after resurfacing raises the compression, more compression...more power

  • Yr Question was a good one. If you don't understand ask that's how you learn! ; ) the manufactures actually give certain tolerances you can Resurface down to this gives allowances for the valves etc. any lower and its scrap. What people don't realise is cos you've "skimmed" the head you also reduce the pulley distance which knocks the valve timing out! So if you get this done an adjustable cam pulley is advisable to get the timing back and bang on to retrieve or gain on the original power ;)

  • it's right for the tolerances and the block /head distance that must be respected BUT all the engine with timing belts have their timing modified as soon as the timing belt have loose !

I don't think that a surfacing can transform a timing so much that an adjustable pulley is needed but in theory you are right.

  • thats the weirdest configuration that ive seen for a 6 cylinder

  • i agree I thought the were just like a regular v6.

  • The VR6 is a unique V6 in that it is a narrow angle engine. Most V6 engines are at least 60 degrees between the banks and sometime as much as 90 degrees (like a V8). In this VW engine, the banks are separated by only 15 degrees and are so close together that it has 1 cylinder head to cover both banks. Think about it; there isn't room between two banks so close together to have a traditional manifold...or anything else! Hope this helps :)

  • Yeah it makes sense And it seems like it would be really strong.. I just never seen one I assumed they were a regualr v6 with two heads and atleast a 60 degree I know the make power theres a couple of guys running them around me be easy to turbo since it shares one manifold Wonder if they got a stroker kist for them I might just get one since they are cool instead of a diesel

  • @zapwatt I can tell by looking at it it dont look normal. Its very wide with hugh valves for a 4 valve per cylinder engine.

  • @EdwardPack1988 Nah, valves look pretty typical.

  • you forgot to mention, that the pistions aren't level either. : )
