@KashgroundTM It's NOT A TAB! It's for READING you glassy-eyed, slack-jawed mouth breathing jelly head! It needs more from you then to just stare and drool!! I fucking HATE your generation!
@collchris2003 ok and?kindle still doesnt do anything other than ebooks correctly.does not change the fact that videos can only be purchased from amazon.the mp3 function is decent, but not as good as a first generation ipod touch.maybe, just maybe i wouldnt mention all of those features if this so called electric book was just an electric book.Unfortunately its a prototype tablet.that specializes in books.
@collchris2003 Also, programming and/or anything involving music and video...do not count as "Drooling" material. The mere factthat people choose a thing like this for more than 100 dollars proves this.
how does a kindle kill books, yes they can leave because every one has a kindle but there still there, people will still write them, kindle is a type of book (in some way)
I have alway found reading whether on paper or via a computer screen renders me being sat down on a chair with my eyes just staring a either words on paper or an lcd screen. Thats not my idea of a good time
I think Nickelback sucks, but I wouldnt make a youtube video expressing my disapproval. Who am I to tell people they shouldnt enjoy something? I love my Kindle. I got the Kindle 3 with free 3G internet new for only 80 bucks. Chump change. I love it.
If you can get over the fact that the UK pays half as much again for the kindle and book purchases, then it is probably OK. However getting ripped off is enough to stop me making the purchase.
hey my grandma got me one it is good the only thing is that it should have allot more features but u would rather buy in iPad same thing more features but its twice as much.. still think about it
my only fear of the kindle is that in the long run, less people will read, I mean, by the next generation or two, the reason is that there will probably be hardly any bookstores, and the allure of walking into one and browsing with physical products will be gone. It will be harder for people to realize that books exist if its only in a virtual world! They will have too much competition from other media! Also, because of the self publishing, it will take a longer time to figure out what is good
FUCK Amazon and the Kindle. Horrible customer service and a snake of a company. They sold me a Kindle that they didnt have in warehouse, and when they did get em it took over a week to send it out and they then sent it to the wrong address. They ripped off a lot of e-reader buyers this Holiday season judging by what the Amazon rep told me over the phone. So no Kindle for the wife. This Nook I got her looks amazing though. Sorry Amazon I will never be ordering from you again.
I have nothing against the kindle, but so far I 've seen a few adverts for it and a lot of them were showing ''happy people'' reading their brand new kindle on a BEACH while being on holidays. Is there nothing else to do on a beach during a beautiful sunny day???
Thanks for all your responses : ) iPad is out, yes, take a look at it and see which one will you still prefer if you are a bookworm : ) Nothing beats the Kindle up to now, when it comes to content, battery life and comfort for your sight.
Then you buy graphic novels. Point is it is a good device for many people. It does not satisfy all your needs, but nothing ever does. It is better than books and that's why I buy it. It has its flaws but has huge advantages.
No actually, people are never just bookworms. Its just that people have other solutions for their artistic needs, etc, like their laptops. Kindle is a good enough reading device at a good enough cost to be appropriate to satisfy the book loving side of their personality. So No, kindle is not for bookworms okly.
@hohahi123321 Oh I get it, so the iPad must be for people who want "most" of their needs in one device. For instance, as a graphic artist I could not only read a picture-less novel but also immerse myself in the "Life of Picasso" complete with paintings. Or a musician might study Beethoven and actually listen to it, while he reads. Kindle users would rather use "other" devices for those functions. I think I understand now. Thanks!
No, you are wrong again. Your error streak is impressive. Kindle appeals to people who already have "other devices" and feel it is not logical to purchase an ipad, a product that has overlaps with the products they already have. For example, the combination of my mac and iphone can do everything that an ipad can. So, basically, buying an ipad is like paying $500 for nothing new. On the other hand, Kindle provides a more comfortable read with less stress on the eyes. You are welcome.
@hohahi123321 Oops, pardon the typos. Also as an illustrator, the idea of creating interactive educational material is extremely intriguing. But what we're really excited about is publishing catalogs that uniquely presents fine art. Since iPad is rapidly creating an audience of millions, we see it as an unprecedented opportunity to educate, entertain, enlighten and inspire.
So you are an fine art student also? Interesting the different views people have. I don't see ipad as necessary yet. If it had major art apps like photoshop, corel painter, final cut, or 3D studio max, it would be a different story. It can act like a digital canvas. Instead of bringing mac and a separate tablet, I can just bring the ipad, which will give it a niche in my collection. I replied to your comments b/c I detested how you criticized Kindle and users through thick sarcasm.
@hohahi123321 I'm actually a professional so for me the iPad is an essential device. As a humorous illustrator my satire can be biting, so I apologize if I offended you. There's nothing wrong with Kindle OR iPhone users. Both can be ridiculed. My business partner has a Kindle, but feels it's time to embrace the future. I agree that the iPad is not designed for creating content, but i feel it ignites a new paradigm for casual viewing. Like "ART", perhaps it's main purpose is to simply inspire.
No offense taken. It just seemed a tad annoying and immature after a few repeated exposures. So, an illustrator? That's very nice. What made you choose the field? I worked a few years as a gallery artist and am now working on my masters. I might consider trying different things after, so please explain, if convenient, what the life of an illustrator entails. It seems to be a very interesting career.
@hohahi123321 LOL, you know you were pretty annoying yourself. If you re-read my post, you'll find that I never actually criticized Kindle. I just stated what I like about the iPad. It would be absurd to criticize a device I never used? I was genuinely trying to understand it's strength and weaknesses. I became an illustrator because I like looking at the "big" picture from "all" points of views and distinguish the absurdities of life to get us to laugh at taking ourselves so seriously.
@hohahi123321 So you're right, when people imply that the iPad is nothing new, or is just a useless device, I find that hysterical and have fun with the absurdity of of it all. That being said, I "don't" see the iPad as a Kindle Killer any more than I see vegetables as meat killers. Everyone has different tastes. We're all in the same restaurant, with the same menu, ordering "different" meals. But ultimately we're all "out to lunch"! ; )
@overvision I began as an airbrush illustrator and made the transition to Photoshop, Flash and Illustrator as the trends changed. Again, that's the interest in the iPad. An illustrator unable to keep up with the times soon finds themselves behind the times. I'm also exhibiting fine art in galleries as well, and that's all about effective promotion. The iPad represents a breakthrough in art presentation and publishing catalogs. I feel it may be the future of art promotion.

@hohahi123321 Perhaps I'm the wrongest person on earth, but as a illustrator, my circle of colleges and I are purchasing iPads because it provides something that we "can't" get elsewhere. Mainly the possibility of reading & publishing graphic material in an engaging format that invites interaction. We're excited about reading as well as creating children's books that kids can play with and enjoy. BTW, I completely understand if this is something that the kindle audience is not interested in
I have a kindle DX for a little over a year and the screen went black. I called the Anazon customer service but to no avail. The support person was not nice and did not offer anything constructive and suggested that I buy a new one.
I am VERY disappointed with the Kindle DX and their customer service. I strongly recommend you DONT BUY THE KINDLE
@ustubegeek does anything beat it when it comes to DRM? does anything beat it when it comes to having books you've paid for taken away by the bookstore because they decided the content of the book was inappropriate for you?
does anything beat it when it comes to not being able to lend a book to a friend or sell it to a used bookstore.
does anything beat it when it comes to not having yet another device to carry around with you when you go places.
@ihatestupidsignups yeah but if i'm sideloading them into a kindle, i'm supporting the company that drm's books. they do a lot worse than drm books too. they pull books off the shelves because they don't meet their standards of decency. that type of censorship is fahrenheit 451.. 1984 esque. and should piss any sane person off.
so no i'm not going to pay hundreds of dollars towards a company that does that.
@ustubegeek Content? You mean how PDFs are unreadable completely on anything but the DX and it costs a shitload to convert them and converting pdfs to mobi doesn't allow you to increase text size either? You fan boys are fan boys :D
