According to the FBI, these "hi-cap" magazines and the guns that use them are used far less often to murder than the average shotgun used for hunting or the .25ACP pocket pistol that only holds 7 or 8 rounds. A magazine ban will in no way prevent this from happening again. A total gun ban would not prevent it either. It will happen again, no matter what the law says.

O'Donnell's logic is flawed. He was asking a loaded hypothetical question which doesn't address the root cause of the incident. You can't go back and change what happened. If it was Loughner's goal to get as many rounds off without reloading. He could have brought multiple guns already loaded. He could have used a submachine gun or assault rifle instead of a high capacity clip. O'Donnell was trying to get the congressman to admit the gun/ammo was the cause by repeated asking his loaded question.

How do my assertions not make sense? There is not a single documented case of a gun control law saving a life. There are however thousands of police reports of criminals using outlawed weapons to commit crime. You claim to make decisions based on facts, well the facts are there for everyone to see if they're willing to look, and they contradict the anti-gun argument. Another example of this was the failure of the assault weapons ban. It didn't affect violent crime rates. On the other hand the FBI reports that soon after it ended, there was a marked decrease in total violent crime overall, and gun related deaths. Reported home invasions and attempted robberies that were thwarted by gun owning citizens have increased, according to police and the FBI records.

What O'Donnell doesn't realize is that criminals don't obey the law. Most gun crimes in this country are committed by known criminals who can't legally obtain a firearm, but they get them anyway. Magazine laws won't reduce crime or body counts, especially when reloading is so easy. The main reason why Loughner wasn't able to reload was because of the extended magazine. It is easier and faster to reload the small ones. Most people can fire 6 10rd magazines faster than they can 2 30's.
