@91kwalk91.. idiot. This thing has only 1 gear vs your petrol that has 4 gears plus, come on use your brain. You have no idea what you are talking about so why bother comment on something you know very little about? Electronic motors are way way way more powerful than internal combustion
I saw Lanovich riding a ZERO MX at "A day in the Dirt" This year. He finished a 30 minute moto, with juice left over. Looks like KTM has one in the wings as well
@KfxHeardheadz585 it's hard to be a crowd of anything if you're dead from no atmosphere left to provide life... not preaching, just stating facts...buddy
@TonyPSmith Strong "facts". Environmentalism is the result of misinformation and the leftist agenda. World's most respected climatologist at MIT has written dozens of articles disproving global warming. I guess you, like most Americans, avoid academic journals.
@91jwalk91 exactly. although i don't like your "Americans" statement, even though it's sadly true, somewhat. not too long ago we were told we'd hit another ice age lol. that's why they call it "climate change" now. just another way to try and get people all worked up over nothing :)
@stevecrf13 Glad to see someone has done some research on the topic around here and realizes that all this uproar is over a computer simulation that the creator even claimed was completely impossible to achieve. I didn't like I had to say it, because I am an American. I've just seen so many people take the medias word for everything rather than doing unbiased research. It's sad, a group of radicals and uniformed individuals are going to destroy our countries economy over something isn't real.
@91jwalk91 right, all people need is something to believe in and to be scared of. remember bird flu and swine flu? whatever happened to the fear factor in that? people stopped caring. sure, we could try to be a little more "green", it'd be nice. but on the other hand, idc if my kids never see a polar bear. i've never seen a dinosaur and you don't see me complaining :) Sure it sucks when an animal goes extinct but there's not much we can really even do about it, survival of the fittest.
@91jwalk91 the earth will take care of everything it needs to, even if that means ridding itself of the humans that don't take care of it. You might get to see that.
@91jwalk91 I have researched everything but I don't need to do research to understand that petroleum and the burning of it is not natural to the earth and it is only one piece of the larger puzzle of non sustainability. No human alive would intelligently say exhaust fumes are just fine for the environment and our atmosphere. The human ego tends to fight for its own selfish longing which is the very thing that destroys it. Do yourself a favor and watch the movie "HOME" on YouTube
@TonyPSmith "I don't need to do research" I have discovered that you sir are officially ignorant, your understanding of exhaust fumes, climatology, and science is basic and uniformed. More than likely, you have no knowledge of science, majored in something that does not matter in college, and are totally unqualified to have an opinion on matters of science.
@TonyPSmith ohhh nooooo!!! mx is "destroying the planet"!!! lol, then wtf do u think volcanoes are doing. how about u start with plugging those up then we can move onto other things. while ur at it, make the cows stop farting too. and anyway, who cares. it's not like you're going to live a million years until the earth ends, which it will when the sun goes out. so start throwing the fuel your saving by using electric stuff at the sun to keep it burning longer, i'm sure everyone will be happy :)
@TonyPSmith dude the humans have known the atmosphere has been deteriorating since the freakin 50s so its not like its something new, im glad your being the responsable one saving our planet one electric bike at a time!!!!
@TonyPSmith if you put every dirbike together they don't even come close to being a fraction of what is causing pollution. Making Dirt bikes electric wont make hardly a difference to reducing pollution, it will only make people pay tons of money for some little electric toy that dosent have shit for power and sounds like an rc car... Make all cars electric and that will bring down pollution dramatically. And have you ever though of all the harmfull chemicals used to make a battery?
@1316bmx Well I don't care all that much about the pollution, I ride electric because it's lighter, faster, more reliable, cheaper, quiet (so I can ride more places), less maintenance and no stalling. The chemicals in the Zero battery are not harmful, you could eat them they're so non toxic and they're fully recyclable.
@gasdive Well said! It's amazing how many riders are so staunchly opposed to anything that threatens their gas bikes. It's almost like their minds are closed, even though the paradigm is shifting fast. Gas is going away, EV drive systems are coming in and it's a great replacement. Sadly, when someone identifies so strongly with something and that something goes away, they go away with it.
@gasdive lighter ill agree with. faster not a chance. my dads friend has one. they are not fun to ride. they just feel awkward. i ride my rm 250 and it feels like heaven compared to the zero mx. being better for the enviroment is something everyone can live with and i think its a great idea. i just love the sound of 2 stroke and 4 stroke dirtbikes. and ill miss it. ill never ride a zero mx in my life. ill simply quit rideing. what would an electric supercross look like? completely lame.
@Mr1991zander So u spent how much money makin a slow electric bike slightly faster and more efficient?? do know that the processes involved in making Li-ion batteries does more harm to the environment than a petrol bike will ever do? Where does ur battery charge come from anyway? the wall socket, right? and that electricity probably comes from a coal burning power station! This electric route is not the way to go
@Dragonpops Actually we are as the government would classify us in a rural area and we are using SMA solar wind power that effectively produces 20Kw of clean power and there is no filling station near us, nearest is 300Km
the zero got a little off the line only due to the lack of a clutch, and the yz250f riders lack of skill. if you think of it... 250f"S gyroscopic force from the rotating mass of the crankshaft is far grater than that of a single armature of an electric motor. and the force of the combustion is being implied on a point on the circumference of the crank which i assume should produce more torque than a electric pulse. eventually the electric bikes will get stronger.
I own a Zero MX, and it has a perm motor fitted and pumps out 74 nm of clean torque, I had carbonfiber body panels made for it and had Brembo brakes fitted, no fuel costs, no gears to be changed (saving time in a race), it kicks ass at the MX track, I have 2 li ion batteries as soon as the bike is flat I just stop to swap the battery out....like a refuel for the petrol heads. ;)
@Mr1991zander Excellent! When did you get your MX? What state are you in? It's good to hear from someone else that rides electric. Have you been turning some heads at the tracks? Send me some pics or upload a video so I can see your new panels.
It will be nice to see at reno little electric formula class pylon planes with triple the power eat everything in the air like it was a toy! Laughs at gas heads that don't know any better!!
you can put a bigger motor in that bike you know? Zero doesn't represent the biggest or fastest it's just a medium end bike! I hate to say it but a 200hp electric sport bike just crushed the finest motor GP bikes on the planet and not in an off the line like this but in a whole normal length race and this is just the beginning in 10 years liquid carbon batteries will allow 300hp 200 mile range electric bikes and gas will be done forever as the inferior product! Get over it gas heads!!!
Sure the electric bike shows its more efficient...but who showed the raw torque? Didnt see a zero pull the wheel like the 250F did. Besides put that "bad zero" against a 450F or 250 2 stroke. Love to see it against a KX500. Actually put it on the pro lites class at a national track with rutted lines and race conditions. Drag racing is for street bikes and drag cars. This proves noting at all. This isnt motocross or supercross. Show me a yz vs zero in a motocross or supercross event.
OH MY GOD! are u telling me that these peewee things are gonna race, its gonna demolish the fame of this sport, i dnt care if there silent and have no exhaust theyre gay!!! no one will buy them unless they are hippies no joke if they are only allowed to race theses in the future of motocross, ITS DONE!
YZ250 would eat this EAT this thing alive. Come on. Thats a YZF 250 4Stroke BitchBoy bike. Something you'd buy your 16 year old daughter to putt around on.
combustion engines have had well over 100 years to be developed, they are the most developed piece of technology we have today, electric motors and lithium battery's have only really had any serious research in the last 15 years. give e-bikes a fair chance and enough investment and i can reassure you they will be faster and more fun than these old fashioned combustion engines.
when e-bikes become common it will be a lot cheaper to ride MX, the motor only has 1 moving part. THUMBS UP IF U AGREE
@SPIRITintheBOTTLE - Disagree, engines have a long way to go. They are dirty & complicated. For all their advances they still only get about 25% efficiency. Electric motors on the other hand, are fully developed and run 90% efficient. The real advances to come in the electric world are in the batteries. Size and weight can be improved, but the cost is the biggest barrier right now. We can send a car 400 miles on laptop batteries off the shelf, but it costs $100,000 - for now.
now i understand that everyone, well not everyone, but most people dont like the new electric bikes. but i think that these are the future of motocross. i have a rmz 250 and i love it, the sound, smell just everything. all in all though electrics will soon surpass gas just like with rc's,everyone was bashing electric rc's when they first came about but when they performed they loved them. should be really interesting as to what happens.
Electric bike has no powerband or gears just gas and go. Sounds like a dirtbike for woman that cant ride to me ^ ^ Cause i know Ashley Folk would kick my ass on the track lol.
Worthless piece of junk... if this junker truly is a zero "MX" why don't you put it on an MX track against a real MX bike.
Oh thats right.... your a zero fanboy who knows that the bikes only advantage is off the line and don't want to see it get demolished by any bike from an 85-500...
@91jwalk91 Sounds like there is fear in your comment. It's OK to be afraid of an electric bike. These bikes will be showing up on a track near you sooner than later. And while they are preemptors to much faster and more powerful models on the drawing boards right now, they are just a taste of the future. Accept it or get devoured by it. It's OK to be afraid.
@TonyPSmith Nope just being realistic! I dont have 9000 to waste on a dirt bike that has the power to weight ratio similar to a CR85 and the top speed of a kids trail bike. There may be good, viable electric bikes out there, but the zero is not one of them, they are overpriced, too heavy, have low top speed, and 30-40 min range. My YZ/WR400F can ride 4 hours of hard trails on my 3 gallon tank.
The only thing positive is that though they are poor trail bikes they would make great trials bikes.
@91jwalk91 Being realistic, they're not overpriced, the total cost of ownership is less than your YZ400F, it's not too heavy, it's 20 kg lighter, the top speed is lower but how often do you actually use the top speed of a dirtbike and if you're riding 4 hours of hard trails without refueling your petrol bike then you're spending most of your time resting or talking or waiting for your mates to get up a hill.
@TonyPSmith these bikes have instant torque off the line but once a 2 stroke gets in the powerband, or a 4 stroke tearing shit up on the track, theres no stopping them. if producers want to make electric competative its going to take more than just 2 seconds of off the line pure torque. just saying.
@91jwalk91 Dude calm down, The idea isn't worthless at all. Brings a whole new side of ridding. Having secret tracks with these bikes have never been easier, of coarse it isn't gunna beat a gas powered its just comparing it.
@91jwalk91 yeah dude weather you know it or not there people out there that made electric cars bike and so fourth that are whooping the gas bikes cars whatever you got kickin there ass look that shit up on youtube bud and then you tell me the dirtbikes and sooner or later the quads arent going to be the same my fucking ass i mean look at the lil ass traxxas rc cars there a vid of one bone stock pushing a big ass boat of a buick
@StormHornet56 We're looking at present day, not projections. We have a proven race machine against, essentially, a concept bike. In the future these bikes will likely be competitive, but who knows, we may have hydrogen bikes by then that could blow anything off the track. The point is, right now there's no comparison between gas and electric mx bikes, and until they can handle a full GNCC race not a 30 minute fun ride and are more affordable ($ : power wise), they aren't viable for real riders.
@91jwalk91 Well the 2010 Zero MX finished midpack at Erzberg, far tougher than any GNCC race. The 2012 version has 1.5 times the battery capacity so can go harder longer. They're far more affordable than any petrol bike. Run this for a couple of seasons compared to a petrol bike and compare the costs. Piston every 20 hours, crankshaft rebuild every 40. There's no comparison for cost, electric is way cheaper.
@edstar83 It's a cool concept, but it's just that a concept. Zeros have no future until they build an bike that can ride for 3+ hours of hard trails. Until then they should focus their efforts into a place where they could dominate Trials, an electric trials bike would be perfect! With a short course, and loads of torque needed, that's electric territory.
@91jwalk91 The Zero MX lasted long enough to finish midpack at Erzberg. There are no trails harder than that. Now the 2012 version has 1.5 times the battery capacity. So it's a lot more than just a concept.
@TonyPSmith if u was there u would know its a yzf then because the f stand for four stroke if it was a yz it would be a 2 stroke and would sound like a bee
@mo2tercross actually a yz250f. the yzf 250 is the 250 quad yamaha makes. but yea a four stroke none the less, mr tonysmith may have been there but was watching a different race
@slippy013 haha probably was watching a different one but the quad is a yfz mate i think but ye your right its called a yz250f just me nd my mates call them yzf if we are referring to my friends bike
@ViolentEncounter Man you guys are goofs! A yz250 is the 2 stroke and the one in the vid is a 4stroke. They arent called yz250, they're called yz250f. Now stop replying on this shit, your playing with letters. Better GFYM bud.
@skater4circa940 It has 55 ft/lbs of torque instantly! You can get a Zero X starting at $7400 on up to $9950 for the track ready MX, which is what this one is. What state are you in? We have reps all over the US that will let you demo a bike if you want. Look up Zero Motorcycles on the web. I am a rep and I cover the southeast states. You won't believe the torque until you ride one! Let me know and I'll hook you up.
@TonyPSmith Yeah you can get 60hp instantly from a mildly tuned 450, it's called the clutch, you drop it. Electrics fail and won't work for motocross bikes. I'll tell you why, 10% of motocross bikes will be raced. Other 90% are ridden elsewhere.
People riding at dunes, trails or anywhere that has extended non stop ride time won't want something that has 1hr of ride time and always need to carry spare batteries and unfamiliar electric components. Electric bikes simply wouldn't sell. Too bad.
@TonyPSmith you need to some to birmignham area and show one of theses off, Birmingham-Southern College. We have several track in the area and i thnk it would be pretty cool to see if these things really work
@thespwilson Give me the details or who to contact because I would love to let everybody see this bike in person. Tell me when, where and what the best way to do it is. Thanks!

@TonyPSmith the zero jumped the fucking start
dirtrox72 2 months ago
@TonyPSmith these bikes have instant torque off the line but once a 2 stroke gets in the powerband, or a 4 stroke tearing shit up on the track, theres no stopping them. if producers want to make electric competative its going to take more than just 2 seconds of off the line pure torque. just saying.
mrmxer100 1 month ago
@91jwalk91 Dude calm down, The idea isn't worthless at all. Brings a whole new side of ridding. Having secret tracks with these bikes have never been easier, of coarse it isn't gunna beat a gas powered its just comparing it.
Don't get your panties in a wad.
TheXYZProject 9 months ago
@91jwalk91 yeah dude weather you know it or not there people out there that made electric cars bike and so fourth that are whooping the gas bikes cars whatever you got kickin there ass look that shit up on youtube bud and then you tell me the dirtbikes and sooner or later the quads arent going to be the same my fucking ass i mean look at the lil ass traxxas rc cars there a vid of one bone stock pushing a big ass boat of a buick
Xxslayer410xX 8 months ago
@91jwalk91 Ten to fifteen years from now electric bikes would be able to kick the shit out of any non-renewable energy source bike you own.
I have a CRF 250R. I'm not a fan boy. I see logically.
Try it sometime.
StormHornet56 6 months ago
@StormHornet56 We're looking at present day, not projections. We have a proven race machine against, essentially, a concept bike. In the future these bikes will likely be competitive, but who knows, we may have hydrogen bikes by then that could blow anything off the track. The point is, right now there's no comparison between gas and electric mx bikes, and until they can handle a full GNCC race not a 30 minute fun ride and are more affordable ($ : power wise), they aren't viable for real riders.
91jwalk91 6 months ago
@91jwalk91 That was exactly my point. Thank you helping.
StormHornet56 6 months ago
@91jwalk91 Well the 2010 Zero MX finished midpack at Erzberg, far tougher than any GNCC race. The 2012 version has 1.5 times the battery capacity so can go harder longer. They're far more affordable than any petrol bike. Run this for a couple of seasons compared to a petrol bike and compare the costs. Piston every 20 hours, crankshaft rebuild every 40. There's no comparison for cost, electric is way cheaper.
gasdive 3 months ago
@91jwalk91 Electric motors have 100% torque from Zero MPH.... Think about it.
edstar83 5 months ago
@edstar83 It's a cool concept, but it's just that a concept. Zeros have no future until they build an bike that can ride for 3+ hours of hard trails. Until then they should focus their efforts into a place where they could dominate Trials, an electric trials bike would be perfect! With a short course, and loads of torque needed, that's electric territory.
91jwalk91 3 months ago
@91jwalk91 The Zero MX lasted long enough to finish midpack at Erzberg. There are no trails harder than that. Now the 2012 version has 1.5 times the battery capacity. So it's a lot more than just a concept.

Anyway , who won? Couldn't tell ...
pencon61 11 months ago
@pencon61 The Zero won off the line, the Yamaha won at the finish line.

@TonyPSmith no shit the zero won off the line he cheated
95tomn 9 months ago
@TonyPSmith the zero sucks. it will never, and i mean NEVER will beat a real dirtbike. they belong to the tree huggers, not on the track.
MrTcamp42 9 months ago
@MrTcamp42 After finishing midpack at Erzberg, it beat a hell of a lot of "real dirtbikes".

Zero Motorcycles Drag Race at Infineon
A ZERO X beats a Ford Mustang and a Yamaha YZ250
CFX50 1 year ago
the zero will win off the line because has a shit ton of torque.....
how much did you pay for that
skater4circa940 1 year ago
@skater4circa940 It has 55 ft/lbs of torque instantly! You can get a Zero X starting at $7400 on up to $9950 for the track ready MX, which is what this one is. What state are you in? We have reps all over the US that will let you demo a bike if you want. Look up Zero Motorcycles on the web. I am a rep and I cover the southeast states. You won't believe the torque until you ride one! Let me know and I'll hook you up.
TonyPSmith 1 year ago
@TonyPSmith Yeah you can get 60hp instantly from a mildly tuned 450, it's called the clutch, you drop it. Electrics fail and won't work for motocross bikes. I'll tell you why, 10% of motocross bikes will be raced. Other 90% are ridden elsewhere.
People riding at dunes, trails or anywhere that has extended non stop ride time won't want something that has 1hr of ride time and always need to carry spare batteries and unfamiliar electric components. Electric bikes simply wouldn't sell. Too bad.
elliotmotoX 1 year ago
@TonyPSmith you need to some to birmignham area and show one of theses off, Birmingham-Southern College. We have several track in the area and i thnk it would be pretty cool to see if these things really work
