This piece was not originally composed by Vivaldi and is definitely not from the 16th century. Vivaldi was just one of many who wrote a piece on this theme.
La Follia is a dance first time mentioned in a portuguese text from the 15th century. In 1672 (6 years before Vivaldi was born) Lully (Les Folies d'Espagne) published the "scheme" of the cords, and Corelli also wrote one of the most famous variations of it. Rameau's ballet "Les Indes Galantes" is also conposed on the theme.
@cbmv21 No, this piece was not composed by Vivaldi. As the description says, it is our own "composite"" arrangement of fragments of Follia arrangements from many different composers, including Corelli, Vivaldi, Marais, CPE Bach, 16th-century Anon., and others (including our own original variation).
A magnificent marathon with a sprint at the finish. Amazing!!

Wow, that triple-tongued recorder variation about four minutes in is brilliantly done. Three cheers!

Lovely little variations. Lovin' those lilting rhythms. Awesome tenor recorder. Sweetly nuanced ornaments. Diggin' the continuo. Excellent!
This sooo reminds me of the good old days.
I, too, have early music underpinnings. When I decided to teach myself fiddle...I made a conscious decision to play the violin as if it were a viol.
Hope you like my fiddling. Peace 2 U.

I'm pretty sure she's playing the Andrea Guarneri owned by Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, but given for her to use.

I saw this group at the Getty here in Los Angles. It was truly sublime and inspiring music. It's a treat to be able to revisit some of it here.
