You missed the EASIEST way of spotting the fake.

Simply hold it up to the light and if there are tiny thin line shaped air gaps at the end of the metal contacts (viewable from both sides) then it is a FAKE.

I got sent four of them, only two from Ebay, the others from a so called genuine retailer. Got them all changed or refunded.

hey a little info dude: if the Magicgate says Unsupported, it means not fake but the psp cant support it due to

-Version need to be updated 5.xx above

-old psp means bought from the release date( likely the fat) slim are ok

-high capacity for the psp (likely fat with old version form release date)

Some facts for you, dude:

-I used a PSP with version 5.00

-It's a slim

-I currently have a 16 gig MSPD in it and it works fine. It's a genuine and MagicGate is supported.

It's unlikely that a Sony product (like a PSP) does not support MagicGate from an MSPD. All Sony Memory sticks are equiped with MagicGate since 2004. The first PSP was released in 2004 and it's absurd to think that a company like Sony would release the PSP if it doesn't support their Magicgate technology

MagicGate encryptes files as part of copy-protection technology.

It's not that fake MPSD's tend to fail because they don't have MagicGate.

It's the just a fact that an MSPD is fake when it has no MagicGate.

A fake MSPD fails because it's crappy built and usually says it's memory and speed is more than it actually is, not because it doesn't have MagicGate.

A real MSPD with MagicGate-failure will work as good as any other.

i was scammed back at the end of 2008. I bought a fake 8gb from ebay and a month later it broke.

it was a used on thats why cause mines had gap......oh shit you probably have mines..lol
